Removing the red label from a SwissTool?
on: March 22, 2012, 01:29:21 PM
Is there a way to do this without scratching the handle? I think it would look so much better with it removed and I'm curious to hear what people have tried/done.

No idea how the label can be removed, but you are right it sure looks better. Here's my BMW SwissTool again:

Carry and use it. Eventually it will scratch off.

I'm thinking removing it without scratching or damaging the finish on the tool might be a bit difficult. I would say your best bet would be to try a razor blade with some Windex on the spot you wish to "peel off." If that does not work you might have to go with chemicals which could damage the finish of your tool just as easy as slicing it off. This is just my thoughts about it though. I have not done this so I have no idea how it might go. Best of luck to you if you decide to do it.

Fine emery and re-polish, or this ...

Carry and use it. Eventually it will scratch off.

It comes off extremely easily. I removed mine by carefully scraping it off with the chisel on my Spirit. Use zero pressure. Comes right off and didn't leave a single mark. Looks WAY better removed. If you're paranoid I imagine a plastic scraper would do the job just fine.

Possibly try 'sanding' it off with a sugarcube?

Honestly on mine I was able to do it with my fingernail alone. I just used my Spirit because it was faster. It really isn't on there all that well.

I was thinking this right off the bat. I just didn't want it to be one of those labels that "chips" off a millimeter at a time and have it take forever.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

If it's paper rub some oil on it and let it soak in. If it's plastic try heating it with a hair dryer.

Perhaps acetone (nail polish remover)?

A sugar cube works, but not as good as the blade of a Classic. No scratches :)

There's not much of the paint left on mine.  With use it comes off all by itself :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I scraped mine off with  a vic classic blade. It didn't scratch the finish at all. Use very light pressure and it comes right off.
