Wedding today
on: April 28, 2012, 02:34:11 PM
Shortly I will be getting ready to attend my wife's cousin's wedding.  I hate weddings, but my wife has a family so I suppose I should pretend occasionally I care.  This cousin has proven in the past to be a bit of an idiot, and today is no different.

They say a bride is a star on her wedding day, but today also happens to be her only daughter's 19th birthday.  I know in the US and other places 21 is the big one, but here in Canada, 19 is the big one- that's when you can start (legally) going to bars, and since her birthday is a Saturday, you'd think she'd have a huge day planned... but her mother's wedding (second one by the way) just happened to be planned for the same day.

Am I wrong or does this put her in the running for most selfish mother ever award?  I think I'm going to slip the daughter some cash so that when she gets a chance to go out and celebrate she has soe spending money to do it.  What I really want to do is urinate on the wedding cake, but I'll do my best not to for my wife's sake... plus I want a piece of cake.

I think she sounds like a bloody cow!

Try not to pee on the cake though... they make you take that stuff home ;)

I can't say I'm impressed by the mother either.   >:(

Slip the daughter some cash and tell her to have a good time when she gets the chance seems your best option, I agree.

Your only recourse is to get drunk and make a speech congratulating the bride and then wish the daughter a happy birthday.  Don't rule out peeing on something.  Weddings are torture, that I loathe.

Well, I have been told that I can only give the girl half of what I'd planned to give her.  Since this is Mom's second wedding and they already have most things my wife picked her up a $50 prepaid Mastercard.  I'd planned on giving the girl $100- I don't know what 19 year old girls are into, but I figured an extra $100 might mean a safe cab ride home from the bar, or a good chunk out of clothes, an xBox game etc.

Well apparently it's "bad form" to give the girl more than we are giving her mother, and if anyone found out, it would reflect badly on my father in law, which to be honest, doesn't bother me a bit.  He's a big man and should be able to take it, but then it'll trickle down to my wife.

Frankly I think the only thing in bad form here is scheduling your wedding anniversary on your daughter's birthday.

And people wonder why I don't like politics- I get enough of it dealing with my wife's family.   ::)  I'd really like to say smurf them all and do the right thing, but then my wife would have to suffer.  To hell with urinating on the cake, I think I should randomly punch every second person at the wedding.

I almost can't believe it. :o  That has to be one of the most selfish, thoughtless things I've ever heard off.

Grant, give her the $100 and tell her to keep the amount to herself. :)

Sadly I'm lead to believe she really can't be trusted either....   ::)

Apparently the indoctrination starts early in this family.

Sounds to me like you need two flasks, one for yourself and one for the birthday girl. Randomly punching people IS quite a time though...

Giving the daughter double of what you gave to the mother only makes sense; she's has two reasons to celebrate after all (birthday and mom's marriage)... ;) BTW if I were her, I'd take all the wedding gifts for mine, or else... >:D

Jeez that's pretty lame. I guess it depends on how much you like the kid, since obviously you don't like the mom, if I were you I'd be tempted to do that just to piss the mom off.  >:D

What a loathsome thing to do.  I can't think of anything more selfish.  I'm sure there is something, but I can't think of it right now.

I would give the girl whatever you want and come out and defend why you did it if there are any questions.  My wife's family knows exactly what I think of most things, but then this type of crap doesn't happen in her family.

I never really got these type of weddings or baptisms or whatever where you have to pay for drinks.
Where I go food and drink (local only in general) is included. Of course usually you have a few thousand guests, each giving you 40 euro or more if they are actually attending the wedding, so you cover your expenses nicely.

Here it's usually the bride's family that pays for the wedding, and guests don't usually pay.  Really I don't care- it was well worth it to have some alcohol at one of my wife's family events.  I swear I married into the only dry Irish family on the planet.

Of course, the family of the bride pays once but the groom pays for the rest of his life..  8)

Same here really so the newlyweds pay nothing and just gets lots of cash
