Amici,
For your viewing pleasure, her are the newest entries into my fixed blade EDC collection. Now many of you are familiar with the CRKT Folts Minimalist, a GREAT production tool based on the designs of Alan Folts, a superb knifemaker in his own right. Well I was so impressed with production model, I decided to purchase original Folts Minimalists and here they are.
These are the Warncliff, Bowie, Tanto, and his newest model the Spew. The Tanto has become my personal favorite out of all his models.
I know allot of forum members here do not like the Tanto style blade for various reasons, but this design in more traditional then the US tanto. Plus if the Japanese have been using them for hundreds of years, than something about them can't be too bad.
The sheaths are constructed from high grade Kydex by Alan himself. These are not made from Zytel as found on the production models. The only modification I have made is by replacing the 550 parachord with stainless steel ball chains since I feel these make it more comfortable for neck carry.
The handles are made from either linen Micarta or G-10 handles, and these fit remarkably well in your hands and are really meant to be used and hard. The lanyards are high quality and really do the job they were intended to do as providing a position for your pinkie and rear portion of your hand. I went with bright colors since I use these as a primary carry when I'm in the field either backpacking or hiking for ease of locating if I was to put them down and forget out them.
In conclusion these are made for EDC or for even bushcraft. the "gram weenies" will appreciate them for their low weight of a mere 2-5 ounces per model. I personally feel that a Folts complimented with a Leatherman Juice S2, Style, PS, or a similar model should suffice very well if one would choose this setup for either EDC or better yet, bushcraft from either a day hike, to even a few weeks of ultra light backpacking.
You can get an original Folts minimalist from either an online custon cutlery shoppe or from Alan directly through his website,
www.foltsknives.com.
Cheers,
Serge
