Skeletool Announcement from Leatherman
on: February 11, 2008, 11:38:27 PM
Regarding the limited availability of the Skeletools:

By now you may have heard of the Leatherman Skeletool. You may have even tried to order it and finally told the launch was delayed and product backordered. We have begun shipping these tools to retailers as of February 1. Some of you have already written to us, upset that they were not ready in time for the holidays as planned and written about by the media. We completely understand your frustration as it was a very difficult decision to hold off on shipping - one we didn’t take lightly or make quickly. The holidays are our biggest time of the year and this was the hottest new launch in four years. But simply put, when something is not right we’re not going to try to get it by you and make the sale anyway.

We think you’ll agree that if nothing else, Leatherman tools are known for keeping their unspoken promise of exceptionally high quality and dependability. Our tools are used for work in the trades, in combat, for emergency situations, on back country adventures and have even been known to save a few lives. Because you rely on our tools to work the way we say they will we delayed shipment until Skeletool was up to our quality standards and we could keep that promise.

Thank you for your patience and continued support of Leatherman Tool Group. This year marks our 25th anniversary headquartered and manufacturing here in Portland, Oregon and we couldn’t have done it without loyal customers like you. Your priceless testimonials and world-of-mouth advertising have made us the number one multi-tool manufacturer in the world. So here’s to you, to Leatherman and to the next 25-years; may they be some of our collective best!

I will relay any questions you may have to my source and post any answers she can provide.

Those folks that already have received their Skeletools are reporting great quality and finish. The delay is unfortunate, but I'm glad Leatherman is taking the time to get it right. Quality should have no compromises.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

It's really big of Leatherman to take a hit during the holidays to get the Skeletool right. I'd have to say the one I got is really good quality other than the rough finish on the bottom of the thumb hole for the blade which took me under 2 minutes to fix with a file. I don't know much about the manufacturing process for these tools but I imagine designing a new tool, setting up the machines to make it, and training the employees to make it takes allot for work and money.

Quality is more importabt recooping capital costs
