So my wife has a photo shoot in Italy. She's traveling with a ton of photo gear including lights and tripods and light stands. When she gets to customs in Italy they take her to a private room and have her open up all of her cases and bags and go through everything. They come across a small monopod which I believe she uses to do table decor shots. It's a pretty straightforward piece of equipment she's been using for years. NOPE, the guy wags his finger at her and says this isn't allowed and confiscates it. Apparently it is too similar to a telescoping baton or some such nonsense. What the smurfity smurf is going on on this planet, this is insanity

It's not just a European thing. For the last month I've been doing some contract work for one of the big two home improvement chains in the U.S.  So last week two of the employees are trying to put up a large banner in the greenhouse. They have nylon zip ties, but there are no holes in the banner. I proceed to pull out my Bear Jaws and offer to awl a couple of holes in the material.

The two ladies proceed to go nuts, urging me to put the Bear away before security writes me up for having a dangerous weapon on the premises! I comply and they proceed to waste 20 minutes looking for something to poke a hole in the banner. And this store sells SOG and Leatherman!

Honestly, I wanted to go to the tool section and remove the SOG display's pic of R. Lee Ermey.
