where to buy, where to make it done?
on: June 28, 2012, 02:35:57 PM
I would like to carry a sort of inspirational ring: a stainless steel, titanium, or silver band with a short piece of literature (around 240-320 characters) in tiny letters and a bigger motto (yeah, my fingers are quite big) carved around,

sort of this:

yadda yadda yadda yaddayadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda
yadda yadda yadda yMY MOTTOyadda yadda yadda yadda
yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda

Does anyone know an online service or a willing artesan that can help me without costing me a kindney and the soul of my firstborn?

Tom, aka Rotokid has a computer controlled engraving machine and some knowledge of jewelry.  If he can't help you directly he may know someone who can.

I'll ask, as soon as our ongoing deal closes :D

Thank you. :)

Hi Sardauker,
Well the equipment that I own is not what we need to do the engraving. I do not have the fourth axis on my machine yet (rotates the work as it engraves or cuts). I know of two people who have the equipment and may be willing to do it for you. They generally only do runs of many pieces due to the setup time involved but i will ask. The worst answer they can give is no. It is my intention to add the fourth axis to my machine but it is about $900-$1000 in parts for me to build it so i do not have a time frame locked in yet. If they aren't willing to and you still need it when I am able to add to my machine I will certainly do it for you.

just thinking:

who needs the fourth axis? one can carve on a flat rectangle of steel or silver and THEN bend it. The fact that the ring remains open would also make it a bit adjustable.

I don't need an hard, cutting steel that could break when bending, after all.
