The HOOK saves the day!
on: July 03, 2012, 01:14:00 AM
The wife and I were traveling about in areas unknown, so were using the GPS.  When we get out the car, she stores the GPS in the center console.  When we return to the car, we see this. What might not be clear is that the GPS is laying flat, and the sides of the unit are perfectly flush with the walls of the console. You can't get you fingers between the GPS and console walls to pry the things out. The GPS is stuck TIGHT:

If we couldn't get the GPS out, we'd be unable to continue the rest of our trip!  I pulled out my Vic Climber ( or "nerd knife" as my wife calls it). The screwdriver and knife would slide in there but it couldn't get enough "grip" to pop the GPS out.  Finally, in a moment of inspiration/desperation, I tried THE HOOK, and it popped the GPS out with no problems!

Yes, prying out a stuck GPS is yet another use for the hook.

Last night we saw the movie "Moonlight Kingdom". One of the main characters used the hook on a stag Champion or Swiss Champ to open a tent zipper. Too bad the movie was supposed to be in 1965, way before the hook.

A very entertaining movie, by the way.

Great story! The hook is definately more useful than people give it credit for - I don't get any day to day use from it, but sometimes it's the only tool for the job.

I've used it fixing up  a chicken coop and retrieving lost items from behind chests of drawers etc. I like the idea of the clothes hanger!

I've used the hook to pull wires through small holes or gaps in motor vehicle trim and in my house when fitting the alarm. Great tool....long live the hook....

I use mine on the zippers for the top on my Jeep.  They get pretty stubborn sometimes.

Last night we saw the movie "Moonlight Kingdom". One of the main characters used the hook on a stag Champion or Swiss Champ to open a tent zipper. Too bad the movie was supposed to be in 1965, way before the hook.

A very entertaining movie, by the way.

You are at the very miniscule crossover point between people that would see that move and people that would know the hook didn't exist before 1991.  :D

My EDC sak is also a CT 34, for 12 years now!
I have used the hook for carrying shopping bags from the supermarket (shortish walk from home to supermarket & back) because it is more comfortable thank the plastic pressing into my fingers.
It is the sort of tool that isn't used often, but what else can do the job when you need something like that?

I sure missed mine today.  I was hanging a ceiling fan and would have appreciated having a hook to pull the wires through.

I'm in the group of people that rarely use the hook, but are thankful for it when a need arises.  The only real thing I think I've used mine for is removing built up hair (we have 2 cats, and the Maine Coon sheds considerably) from the grill of a housefan.  It worked pretty well, and beat taking the fan apart to clean, although I can't deny it may have been quicker to just take the front grill off and wipe it clean, but where's the fun in that right??
