Just had a look at the file on my PPP, seems like it's the same as the one on your Powerlock. Could just be down to when they were manufactured.

my powerlock is one of the newer models with gear guards, so looks like the one on my ppp could be a older file (and better  one), hmm interesting  :D

I'm just going by what I heard that they were making their knives and tools in china now.  I do know that I'm very disappointed in my crosscut because of the non-ajoining tweezers and the poorly casted mini-screwdriver.

I noticed on the website that the Powerlock now says "Assembled in the USA" whereas my old Powerlock's box says "Made in the USA". I wondered about the components in the SOG tools.

  ? hmm i wonder,

i have to say that the pliers on my ppp are much nicer made, im going to swap files as i would use the file more on my powerlock than my ppp, the other tools look the same but ill give them a good look over today  :tu:

What got me to wondering was when I read a post on a knife forum. Seems a guy had purchased a new Powerlock and promptly twisted off the Phillips head. He says SOG sent him another and the same thing happened. Now he has a third and is trying that. I've had that problem with cheapo multitool Phillips so I wondered...

The problem is that with multitools you never know whether the poster actually takes care of the tool and uses common sense or whether he's broken the screwdriver trying to loosen the Phillips retaining screw on the disc of the starship Enterprise. I had a customer who's a Ranger. He was issued a Gerber Multiplier years ago and promptly broke the knife blade opening a can (why not use the can opener?!!).  :twak:

I would assume the rules for multitools are the same for musical instruments. The rule was that the country of primary assembly could be the marked origin. Guitars would have primary parts from Mexico, Korea, Japan and China but because the guitar was put together in the USA could be called "crafted in the USA". I don't know whether "Made" can be fudged or the parts must be wholly from the USA.

ive compared all the other parts on my older ppp and my newer powerlock and it all looks the same other than the file, puma ive seen this issue as they say parts from germany but built in china   or something like that but there knives are not as good as there old ones, im happy overal with my powerlock and ive no issue where something is made unless built badly,  :tu:

Same here. I had put my Powerlock away until a couple of days ago. I was oiling it and have been toying with the idea of EDC-ing it again. I'm probably going to remove the tool covers, and then it's a very nice MT. I do want to trade the socket drive for something else.

Regards!

Paladin refers to the file as a combination file / #6 slotted screwdriver.

Anyone brave enough to try using the file tip as a screwdriver?  If this "new" style file is as brittle as some of my other files, I think it might break easily when used as a screwdriver.
