Thrunite TI - Infinitely Variable Flashlight
on: September 08, 2012, 01:09:52 AM
I was playing around with my Thrunite Ti and had some QTC on my table so I decided to give it a try. Most of the QTC test so far were done on single mode flashlights like the Tank007 E07 or various Peak LED Solutions flashlights and this is a two mode flashlight but the Thrunite Ti has (or lacks) something important for this project. It has no spring, it's a battery crusher. And one of the problems was keeping the QTC in place. This flashlight has a reverse polarity protection ring on its plus pole, ideal to place the QTC. There is a bit of a downside to it though cause of this two mode feature.  The two stage switch is actually a kind of spring in itself; screw the head down and a piece of metal comes in contact with the + of the cell, keep twisting and that piece of metal bends slightly and makes a second contact on the underside of the metal piece. That is how you change from low mode to high. With QTC the first mode is something around 3-4 lumens, and you can come to that moonlight/firefly mode by reducing pressure on the QTC by unscrewing the head slightly. But this only happens when you first turn it on.

Here's a short video of how it works and some pictures of the flashlight and QTC.

QTC is a sponge like material that conducts electricity.

Here's the website for it. You can get some at CPFMP. Peak LED Solutions has a whole line of flashlights that come prepared for use with QTC.

I'm sorry I ever doubted you. :-[  Very cool mate, I'll need to go and dig out my QTC and give this a go. 8)

I got one of these a few months back when they had that $5 shipped deal, decent light, I may have to give that mod a try. Do you think it would also work on a fenix LD15? I'm unsure cause the UI is slightly different.

I don't have one of those so I'm not sure. Does it have a spring at the end of the battery tube? If so, then it's a no go for sure as the QTC depends on the pressure applied to it to turn it from an insulator to a conductor and the spring eliminates that pressure. The difference in the UI could be a problem too as the two modes come from turning the light on and off on it, the Ti has the modes in one continues twist. But I might be wrong, wouldn't be the first time ;)

No its a battery crusher, but turns on in high mode than you quickly turn off than on again for low mode

My Thrunite TI came in today.  Great little light, I quite like it.  Only downside for me is that I chose Red and well it's really more of a rosy pink, not red at all.  So.. its now on my wife's keychain and I have a black one on the way now to replace the old fenix e01 on my keychain.
