Combo edge no more
on: September 03, 2012, 11:15:45 PM
Well after about 15 minutes or so with my worksharp belt sharpener the recon 1 is sporting a clean crisp plain edge. I then used the dremel to add a choil for a choke up when doing precision cuts. :D

Thoughts welcome.

Nice job Ash   :salute: I'm not a fan of serrated edges, I think the choil needs to be deeper (hard to tell without holding it)  :-\ and while you have the Dremel out how about some jimping for your thumb?  :tu:

I didn't want to add any jimping as it has a little already. As for the choil it feels perfect for my first finger. My partner and I kept trying to decide if it was right or not. I'd feel it think I was done then I'd be told nope a little deeper. We finally agreed. :D

In fairness though Tony, Ashley's tool of choice was a Dremel rather than a 9" angle grinder ...

Good to hear you've got it tuned how you want it Ash  :tu:

Looks good Ash! Although I cannot support the senseless crimes against serrations. :( ;)

Good work.  Most of my knives are plain edge as well because of my own difficulty in sharpening serrations.  :tu:

I have a few knives with serrations. For a folder, it really does not bother or appeal to me all that much.

I got serrations for my ESEE-5 as the serrations struck me as being easy to sharpen.

Actually, I intentionally omitted it for fear of raising any flames... I do find the oatmeal hilarious too, but it just ain't anyone's cup... :-)
