I assumed it was a pet that you were very fond of, but I would have bet money that the name Thundahbeagle was a play on the Thunderbolt character from the old 101 Dalmatians movie. Funnily enough, I wasn't. But I have Welsh family and grew up there, and it's home to me. I can almost see Wales from where I live.

Hiraeth is a Welsh word meaning something like homesick grieving, similar to saudade in Portugese. Wikipedia says it's a 'longing, yearning, nostalgia, wistfulness' for Wales. Hiraethus is the closest I could get to 'someone who misses the country and wishes they were back in Wales', but yr hiraeth might have been a better choice.
