It seems to work quite well in my Jeep- I imagine yours will be pretty similar.  As I said, the only real issue is deciding what readouts to use.  Also, on a 4.3 inch smartphone you are pretty limited as the small dials are a bit too small to see, especially when glancing at them while driving.

Yeah I would imagine so. I won't be keeping it displayed all the time though, don't want screen burn (inherent problem with OLED screen).

Got mine today, the number of options available on my jeep not counting the GPS based ones is, well pretty pathetic lol. Going to try on my parents' car and see if it does any better.

Also half the space inside the adapter is empty, so you can cut it down even shorter if desired.

I was kind of thinking of plugging it into my VW to see what showed up there for comparison sake.

I wonder if it's software limitations or the adapter itself?

Neither. It supports a whole load of stuff, but if your car doesn't have the sensors, or the ECU doesn't send the info on, then you won't see it.

My Hyundai only gives me a half dozen sensors to choose from, my Ford gives me a couple of dozen, and a friends LandRover lit up every sensor the software could give me (at least 50)

Nah it's just the jeep is too ancient, if I recall the engine has its root in the 70's and haven't changed much mechanically since the late 80's.

So I should have a fair amount of stuff in my 2007 Focus... haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet...

Really wanting a Google Nexus 7 for a display in the car...

Well that too, the more I use my phone, the smaller I find the screen to be.

and my current tablet has no bluetooth or gps...  :ahhh

Maybe I'll be lucky and get a nexus 7 for christmas... oh, and my phone contract should be up for renewal by then, doubt they'll offer me anything better than my Defy...

I'm finding my screen too small for more than a couple of readouts so I'm sure yours is even more frustrating.

Still, I have to wonder if a 7" tablet might block out too much of the dash or windscreen.

This is a screen grab of my Galaxy Tab 7, hooked up to my Mondeo Turbo...

As you can see, you can fit a lot on a 7" screen. I don't find that it takes up too much space on the windscreen.

I suppose that depends on the size of your windshield.  Jeeps have pretty small windshields- so small in fact that when you are first in line at the lights you can't see the overhead ones!

A seven inch tablet would be OK in my VW though.

I've been using Torque/ELM327 in my new ride (2012 Focus) with a Galaxy Infuse.

Fun stuff.  :tu:  I've tried to talk myself into getting a dash mount for the phone, but I find myself unplugging the ELM device so it doesn't draw power with the engine off, and that sort of ruins the convenience of the whole setup.

I haven't unplugged ours yet.  I don't think you'd have to worry about running the battery down, unless maybe the car is sitting for extended periods of time.

I haven't unplugged mine either... but it also seems to shut off when I shut the Jeep down too.  Unless the Jeep is set to accessory the thing is as dead as anything else.

The little LED in adapter stays on, but the BT connection is down when car turns off, so I guess there will still be some small power draw, but it shouldn't be a problem in short term.

I don't really use it anymore, it's neat to look at but nothing really useful, and it distracts me from the road.

I imagine it's different from vehicle to vehicle. It's completely powered down in one of mine, but the LED stays on in the other.

I'll check the LED, but I don't think I've ever seen it.  Even so, I'll bet the flashing LED on the dash to make it look like I have an alarm would kil the battery faster.   ::)

Yeah, it's a very low current draw, but I'm kinda picky about things like that, especially when it comes to battery charge levels...  :-\
