Alox mini explorer
on: September 12, 2012, 04:07:32 AM
So I have been tossing around the idea of a mini alox explorer. I have the parts, 84mm saw and scissors, assorted springs :ahh: and of course the tools ;) So what do you think? I know I have several projects not done yet but I'm waiting on parts to return. This is what I'm thinking. Black alox scales, main blade/combo tool, saw, scissors, mag glass and inline(from a 85mm wenger). Thoughts? Thanks
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I thought Wenger parts weren't inter-changeable with Vic parts  If it is would the inline still lock? Now that would be awesome!

No the inline will not lock because the locking mechanism is also part of the spring. I'm just using the inline(modified) for this.

Darn, that's my only complaint about Victorinox drivers. Still looking forward to seeing this one  :tu:

Sounds very cool!

I've had this thought bouncing around in my head for a while now that a regular Explorer with a saw added would be a great combo.  Or, even better, a Yeoman with a saw.  But, it sounds like you beat me to it!   :tu:

Vic beat you to that one, it's a Woodsman.  Sadly it's discontinued but still one of my favourite SAKs.

The mini Explorer sounds cool Steve. :tu:

Easiest way to make a woodsman is to take a champ and remove some layers. I have made 3 so far for another person.

I was thinking the same thing, thanks Steve.   :tu:

I still have to get back to work on making my Yeoman before I try anything else though.  My back is slowly getting better, so I should be able to get back to it soon.

Ok now I'm going to re-open this. I'm gonna give it a go. I've got some alox 84mm liners coming, thanks syph ;). And what I'm going to do instead of a 91mm inline is try a 85mm wenger inline to see what happens.

I might be mistaken but I didnt think the Explorer had a saw!  :)

It would be cool to see an exact copy of the Explorer but alittle smaller. :D

Cool!  Glad to hear you're going to try it after all.  And, I agree... a smaller Explorer would be a neat little knife!
