Warranty question
on: December 09, 2012, 09:54:27 PM
I sent in my Super Tool for warranty and was wondering if they usually fix them or replace them. It's one of the original Super Tools and if they replaced it with a new one it wouldn't hurt my feelings as I like the new locking system compared to the old style. I had the smallest screw driver blade chip off when I was tightening a towel bar in the bathroom. Not something I anticipated causing a failure by any means and I assume there was something wrong with the bit. It was the first time I had used that particular one and I wasn't putting excessive force on it.

It will likely come down to if they have the parts on hand or not.  I've found they're pretty good about fixing rather than replacing if at all possible.  Good luck and let us know how it works out  :tu:

just got a warranty return back from leatherman. sent in three different tools, and got three remanufactured tools back.  all were the same as the original tools.  A PST, Supertool, and S2.  Great service. About 10 days door to door.  they will treat you right.

About ten years ago when I lived in Portland I drove over to the headquarters building......long story short they handed me a brand new supertool (the original one) on the spot.

That's good to know. This one literally didn't have a scratch on it and looked new.

I picked up the mail today and there was a brand new Super Tool 300 waiting there for me. Pretty good warranty if you ask me. Now I don't feel so guilty about owning a few of their others. :ahhh

If I was looking to buy a sheath for this, what would I be looking for? The leather one from my original ST is too small.

Probably the molle would be best. Not sure they made a leather one that size?

if you want to stick with leather, this might be your best option: http://www.leatherman.com/accessories/product/Premium_Leather_Sheath_-_4.5

but they also have a couple nylon options on the site that fit the ST300.

My leather sheath makes me feel kinda special. It's from an original Super Tool, the sheath with the diagonal "Leatherman" in gold. When I lost the first ST, I replaced it with a ST200. I liked the original sheath better than the one that came with the 200, so I kept using the old sheath, and the 200 stretched it out over time so it was a nice fit. When I chipped the small flat driver on the 200 and Leatherman replaced it with a ST300, the sheath was stretched out juuuusst enough that the 300 fit in nice and snug. So... original Super Tool leather sheath, ST300 fits perfect. When I reacquired an original ST a while back, the old sheath didn't fit it any more, just way too loose. The sheath looks like someone dragged it behind a truck down a muddy gravel road, but I'd feel bad replacing it.

I stuffed it in the old sheath but the strap is too short. Bummer.

I did that with an Old Wave sheath.  My new Wave fits in it really well now.  It was real tight for a while, but now it's like a glove.  I don't use it all the time though, because for work I have to carry my flashlight in the sheath with it so I use a New Wave leather sheath.
