WiSAkfan - that blizzard sounds much, much worse than some of the weather we get up on the high Pennines, where you'll find snow poles up to one and a half metres high for measuring how much snow is burying the road.  If the snow's covering them, don't even bother looking for your shovel.  However it usually doesn't take more than an inch or so of snow to have a really bad effect on roads and railways over here, and traffic in Sheffield, where I live, gridlocks very easily as a result of snow.

Sounds like a good idea to have a go at forcing a patina on an Opinel before moving on to the Svord if you decide to do so.  I've ended up with with a bunch of carbon steel, mainly non-locking Opinels for carry (the No 5 and smaller models are Uk carry legal) and for use in the kitchen - they're great slicers and peelers.  All of my carbon steel Opinels have a forced patina on them: they're resistant to rust and don't taint food in any way.  I also like the way the blades look with the patina on them.

BTW, birthday went well and led to acquirng some additional funding for knives, which I'm not complaining about.  Thinking about getting something by Queen because I haven't got anything made by them and they have some pretty interesting models on offer.

Didn't realise you were another Sheffield lad. There's a few active on here surprisingly enough  ;)

Yeah, I've lived in Sheffield for twenty years now but I'd be stretching it a bit to call myself a 'lad'.
