GEC banana knife (maverick in calico bone)
on: December 21, 2012, 04:16:10 AM
GEC has at last released a traditional banana knife, such as your grandfather would have used:

Here the resemblance is plain to see, GEC did cut corners by using bone as a handle material, rather than the traditional actual banana, still looks the same though:

you can see here the knife at its specialized task, slicing effortlessly through this banana, a task that would of course defeat most ordinary knives:

AFAIK the pattern is a unique GEC thing, a mixture of congress frame and stockman blade configuration, it is a little wierd and not that popular, especially as the swayback frame forces the clip blade to be very small. I like it anyway, and the fit and finish is really flawless.

Are they easy to open?

Most of their recent ones seem to have solved the problem of extra strong backsprings.

The main blade and pen are about the same as their SAK counterparts. The sheepsfoot is very light. The edge grinds are very even, but very obtuse, have been trying to see if I can get along with these, and they are reasonably sharp, but now I'm thinking of getting some diamond hones and reprofiling each one.

absolutely  ;), that's why they got to be called slippies - silent film comedians hated having them lying around on the ground.
