Leaving the mod community
on: January 17, 2013, 12:23:10 AM
After a lot of thinking, I've decided to completely stop modding SAKs. For now it's too time consuming and expensive. I started doing this to have fun and make a few bucks in the process. Now it's just consuming my time to much and I need to focus on family. I'll still be around for advice if needed, but as my sig line now says "retired modder". It's been great fun learning and modding but it's time hang up the tool belt.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Although I've never been a client, your mods that I've seen are quite impressive (my favorite was the Super Soldier). Perhaps in lieu of full on retiring, you could do mods whenever the mood hits you and offer them up for sale?

I understand the time crunch, it is a real thing.  I am sorry to have contributed to your stress level.

If you come back, you can double your rates, that way knuckleheads like me have to think twice before proposing any hairbrained ideas.   :p  (If not double, then at least raise 50%, seriously)

Great work btw, you should set up a Steve Mod thread where you post your best models.  it would be cool to review.

Cheers

Hey Steve

You okay buddy.

But I think I know what you mean - family life is just so precious, We all take it for granted. Everytime I'm on this forum, my young son (5yr old) totally leaves me be. He knows that I'm just totally consumed by what I'm reading and that's nothing proud to say. It's actually making me feel pretty smurf now just thinking about it to be honest.

Childhood really is a blink of an eye - then it's over and will NEVER return   NOT EVER ....regardless of how much we learn or aquire later in life.

We must ALL remember that we can't go back - So Don't Miss It !!

All the best to you Steve
I'm sure we'll all still keep in touch.

Oh man believe me I understand how balancing it all takes alot out of a person.  I have a 5 day a week 8 hr a day day job, I come home for 'family' time until 8 when I put the little guy (now 2 yrs old) to bed, then I head into the shop and usually work until 11.

I still really love modding though and you know you'll get some idea you have an itch to try, then you'll be back tinkering.  Its the draw.. to see if you can figure out something cool, or something noone else has thought of yet.  :D  You'll still have to make something else in the 84mm size since Im still sending you a set of BO'd cadet parts.   :pok:

To me, there is - like with most things - two sides to this.

The good side is you have set your priorities right, imho. As a Bonus, you quit while you were still having fun, so your memories are hopefully joyful.

The "bad" side is that you quit modding - But that´s only bad for us - and maybe not even that, maybe somebody else will now feel the need to step up and find his/her way into modding more than just his/her own stuff, so it would be a win for our little community.

And lastly, if i may add this although being a Newbie, it´s a win that we may still participate from your knowledge and have you here as a friendly and nice part of the community.

Perhaps in lieu of full on retiring, you could do mods whenever the mood hits you and offer them up for sale?

Steve,

Thanks for the amazing mod you've done for me. Everyone loves, and wants the Super Soldier! ( I literally have to look after the SAK in my friends vicinity... :pok: )

Though I understand your reason to stop making more, I sincerely hope, that one day you'll be back as a modder. (I have some ideas shaping for a new SAK, but that's not the issue here. :) )

And don't forget, family first! I know, my family fell apart around me, so trust me, being alone sucks big time.
Small collection of SAK's, (but growing rapidly. :D) not so fast at this time. :( And the most important of all: Ze Zuper Zoldier by Steve!  :ahhh
