Warning, reading the rest of this post may reveal spoilers

But since you guys aren't using the spoiler thread... the 3 big theories of Rey's origin are:

Show content
1. She is Luke's daughter (the saga follows the Skywalker family, Luke went into hiding and she was left much the way he was himself hidden away on a desert planet. Anakin/Luke's lightsaber called to her, and went to her vs Ben/Kylo in the fight)

2. She is Han and Leia's daughter (you'd think that Han or Leia would have said something, and Ben would recognize her, and the saga follows the Skywalker family)

3. She is Ben Kenobi's granddaughter. (seems a possibility, but the other two are more likely given that all saga movies so far are about Skywalkers.)

All very plausible but a bit predictable. I still reckon Phasma myself - but I am very used to eating humble pie when I am (usually) wrong.

there's nothing to say it isn't Luke and Phasma... I mean, that would definitely work...

It could be something along the lines of:

Show content
They have a daughter, Ben goes Knights of Ren and kills off all the Force capable kiddies (except Rey who Luke hides) that Luke is training.  Luke tells Phasma that their daughter died too, and he is to blame, after hiding her on Jakku.  Phasma gets pissed off at the former hero of the rebellion and joins the New Order, perhaps in an effort to get close to Kylo and plot her revenge, perhaps in spite due to the Rebellion Hero's failure to protect her child.

From what I've read we may not see Rey's true lineage until episode 9.  But to me it's something that must be revealed in EP8.

If G.R.R.M. advised on the script she would be Lukes AND Leias daughter :P

If Luke is the father I see no reason why he did not bring her to Scottland where he was hiding.

Yeah, surely if they stagger the releases most people will go and see both. I hate this competition stuff.

I am putting down a bet here that Phasma is Rey's mum. If I'm wrong I will do a GAW with a SAK for a prize.
Didn't you hear, Rey is Anakin re-incarnated... Punished to live on a desert planet, abandoned by her family so in the end she can do what the force has brought her forth for, to restore balance. It's because of this Darth-Vaders force ghost cannot show up and kick Ben in his Jerries...

lalallalalllal, what do I know... Wouldn't it be fun if Snoke was merely a force-ghost?
Wait, this is fun... that means that Luke and Leia are Reys children, now that would be a surprise :o
You're making my head hurt E-Thizzle! That would be a big surprise though.

Why did they need Andy Serkis to be Snoke? He (?) hardly moves out of that big chair.
Can't take credit for the Rey == Anakin theory; but the idea that Snoke is a Sith Lord from beyond the grave is mine (after all the Sith Lords were the first to form force-ghosts).
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I like that solution because Phasma seriously needs another dose of badass for the next movie but isn't it a bit done? "Rey, I am your mother!" won't really take the price as cinemas most inspired line...
But they blew it already with Han Leia and their son.

I think Phasma was featured far too heavily in the trailers to warrant the very little screen time she actually had. It may be because she'll have a much larger role in the second and third films. Also, she gave in to the rebels pretty quickly when pressed - almost like she was helping them out.

It could just be that her part got slashed heavily in the editing suite.  She wouldn't be the first part that got cut in the name of time and pacing.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but arn't Jedi supposed to be celibate?  The whole Anakin relationship thing was secret to the Jedi order.

I agree with your objection though, I can't see that scenario playing out as Kenobi was one of the last old-school Jedi and I can't see him having a family.  Luke on the other hand seems more plausible, but also a little too obvious.  She might not be anyone's sibling whatsoever.

Peggy can't leave the woolpack! She's the only thing keeping it going, especially since Ant and Dec left.

granddaughter.

Keep in mind that in the Clone Wars cartoon Obi Wan had a "relationship" with Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore. Although she does die during the cartoon... that doesn't mean however that she didn't have a child that he was unaware of during a period of years they were apart.

That would make Rey a Jedi Mandalorian decedent.  :ahhh
