I Praise of the Skeletool
on: March 04, 2013, 01:06:48 AM
Without question the Skeletool, in my case the original standard model, is one of the most useful items I carried in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The main blade is easily accessible with one hand while the pliers and interchangeable bit feature w/ the optional bit set proved perfect for light duty use.  On many occasions a bit from my bit set was all I had available that fit some odd fastener.  Along with a Smith’s compact sharpener it serves me well to this day.

Update

I’m currently traveling for work and stopped by local liquor mart and selected six bottles of beer, one each from countries I have visited, funny none from the Middle East…  Anyway most of them had crown non twist off caps and to my great fortune I just used the carabineer / opener feature of my Skeletool for the first time.

Cheers,
W-W

I love their bit set. Very compact and a wide range. It is not perfect but it is my favorite. I would like to see some smaller stars. But it is often the only tool in our office or shop that fits an odd fastener.
Thanks for sharing.

The skeletool was my first "real" leatherman. It's a good 'weekend warrior' for me :)

I traded a Leatherman Juice KF4 for a Skeletool CX. The coating on the back side was not the most uniform, but doesn't feel scratched - just looked that way. Have no regrets in the trade.

The pocket clip however does get bent out or stuck on the wrong things at the wrong time. Wished I could somehow flip it over to where the weight (when clipped) had the pliers weight facing downwards, since I carry mine in a leg pocket on my work jeans.

The sharpened edges were different too, but hasn't posed a sharpening problem.

Pairs up will with a Charge TTi for when needing to hold nuts & drywall screws still.

I to love my skeletool.  It is my BBQ tool of choice. Just one question how can you own this tool for so long and never have used its best feature ( bottle opener) before?

I love my original Skeletool - it's been my go-to tool since getting it in 2009. It, together with the mystery Puma Taskforce that is also pictured have been with me around the world - in deserts, oceans, mud, and have not failed me yet.

That it is pretty helps too. It's just such a nice looking thing, ergonomic enough and functional too, and still looks great despite the abuse it has received. Those things combine to make it easily my favourite of all the pared down multitools out there.
