I love the MUK although at some point I'm going to have to vet a good sheath made. I'll probably see if Eric from On Scene will do a nice Kydex rig for it, at which point it may become my preferred kayak knife, possibly replacing my current favorite, the CRKT Neckolas.

I got a leatherman wave around Christmas. The production date is 1112. And it had rust spots new out of the package. Leatherman offered me a "refurbished" tool. Are you serious refurbished?!? Mine is brand new!!! I do like it though. Since then I've ordered one in black oxide.

All my Leathermans rust like crazy, I carry a Skeletool CX and a custom D2 steel slipjoint at work, both in the same pocket. My slipjoint never has rust and it's not even considered stainless, the leatherman is covered in rust however. Thinking of getting a Victorinox Spirit for this very reason and ditching the Leatherman.

That's interesting, ive been thinking of making SAK blades from D2, and wondered how stainless it would be, since its not 'stainless' per say.

Vic spirit x is the way to go if you want to take the Vic plunge.  I have 5 now. :D

My queen in D2 does not rust as such, but the blade has dark stains on it from possibly cutting a lemon and some onions.

Definitely a lot better than 1095 or even O1 steel but not SS.

It’s the finish. That bead blasted finish seems to be a rust magnet. The old brushed finish worked better, I think.

I have an old Original Supertool and it has the brushed finish. It resides in the junk drawer and it’s been to heck and back over the years. I’ve used it for yard work where it got gobs of wet dirt in it from pulling saplings. It’s gotten auto grease & dirt, paint, glue, epoxy, drywall gunk, and caulk on  it.  I’ve used it to replace bathroom faucet seals and pull gunky things out of the drains.  It’s been left in unheated/unisulated garages, tossed in the trunks of cars, and accidently left outside on the patio once.  All  of that and no rust.

But these new bead blasted LMs don’t seem up to the task.

The Wingman isn't bead blasted and mine looks AWFUL.

.

Well, I was trying to give LM the benefit of the doubt, but it looks like the steel is the problem.

It’s a good thing my primary pliers-based  MT is a Vic Spirit. ;)

No problem. It was speculated earlier that a cheaper steel was used in the Wingman and maybe that was why it rusted.

Just to follow up on this a little bit, I snapped these photos of some new cars the other day at work to show how corrosive the environment is here.  These cars have been sitting for about twelve hours when these photos were taken.  Of course the rotors would have been clean when they were driven off the ship 12 hours earlier.

Grant has the curse of the rust, not the most ideal curse for people who like multitools. :)

Or anything made of metal, really.  This is why I don't believe Superman has ever been to Nova Scotia.  You think Kryptonite is bad, he'd rust away in moments here!

Believe it or not, car dealerships down at the Jersey shore suffer the same problem.  At least watching cars rust is far better than watching the local drunken obnoxious sluts try to be the next Snookie :ahhh

Yeah, I believe it since geographically you aren't too far away from me.

If I had all those sluts looking to be the next Snookie I'd probably start holding try-outs.  Once you get to a certain age there's no such thing as a "bad touch."  :D
