Giant knife 2009
on: March 22, 2013, 05:37:14 PM
Got the Giant 2009 some days ago, it is a big difference just to see and to hold it. I really like this, show all the implements in 2009. Some functions need research.

Is it so that the more new Giant knives got "not sharp blades" On this all the blades are very sharp.

It gives a feeling of having scientific technology in hand!
Now i am officially - a geek :)

This knife is impressive in every sense.
I recently persuaded myself to buy an Heritage as their price has become quite acceptable, but can't really justify the Giant.
Congratulations!!!!!!!
P.S. Is your knife equipped with a led light or a laser?

Very Nice!  I had decided long ago not to buy one... but I may have changed my mind; I almost bought one last month when a good deal appeared on ebay, but I'm so broke because of new SAKs right now I decided to wait a little while longer.

It's certainly not the same as having the different pocket knives, but I think it's still very interesting and just amazing tribute to the Swiss Knife and all pocket knives really.

thanks alot Basilio and ICanFixthat  and KKokkolis :tu:

This Giant got the LED light with two AAAA batteries, this knife is probarbly the ultimate show piece!

I heard some talk that some of the latest Giants got "not sharp blades" for safety reasons?. This is sharp and use caution opening/closing them.

I will have it in a nice place

With it being so big is there a play/wobble in the pins?

I have to be honest, I don't think this would be very comfortable for pocket carry.  :D

I never got these things before, but as simply an example of one of each kind of implement available in a given year, it now makes a little more sense to me. Not my thing, but the world is big and there's a lot of room for folks liking things that aren't to my taste.

If you want to have a little bit of fun, imagine actually using this knife for each of its various functions, like trying to scale a fish with the scaler in the middle of the tool, or turn a philips screw with the philips near the center. The mental image amuses me.

thanks folks

since it is so large there are some functions that is hard to open, so it is peened on the harder side. Find this to be best when not every functions is opened. It does not have the same comfortable opening or closing on the implements.

Be careful not to cut your hand on this.

It is more for show, however it had functions i have never seen before, even with researching knives for many years. It is ok for collectors that does not want to many knives.

I know they are odd, but I still think they are cool.  I too swore off the idea, but a few months ago I saw a new one going for $500, and now I wish I would have snapped it up.

That was a good price :)

I had to pay much more, but again this is Norway. This is one of the few to reach this country so
it is historic for me :)

There were some pretty cheap ones a while back, maybe a year or so.  Maybe Jassbass can tell us the lowest price they have sold for on ebay.  I'm not sure how far back it was but I saw one go for pretty close to $500, I think I may have been as high as $700.  I think the last one I didn't buy last month wen in the 7-800 range with is pretty cheap really.

Great catch!

On my Giant the blades are razor sharp, also the saws. Care is needed. Mine is a later version like yours. Earlier ones had the whistle and telescoping pointer, and didn't have the short 65mm blades. I've figured out most of the tools, but there are still a couple that puzzle me. Got mine for a very nice price. A dealer friend ordered out two and sold one to me at cost. He kept the other as a 'draw' to his tables at gun and knife shows.

Wenger doesn't make a sheath for the Giant, but they do make a backpack.  :D

Congrats for getting such a cool piece! (I was almost to say museum piece  :D)

I will also hold on jokes "did you also get the LE Wenger backpack for it"  >:D

Could you please take some pics of it with the tools closed and from several angles, including the back (springs) side? I'm curious how it looks in other more normal positions than with all tools fanned out.

Notice on the top, oposite of the flat screwdriver. There is a part that seems to have or is a resting part for a longer tool?

Feel like a kid again, its fun :tu:
