Wenger Nomad ??
on: March 24, 2013, 06:36:37 PM
I just bought a Wenger Nomad (I think). It is identical to the Nomad shown on Sakwiki
EXCEPT instead of a clip point small blade, it has a nail file. All other items are the
same as the standard Nomad, locking main blade, wrench, scissor, etc. It has plain red
Cellidor scales, no pliers - EXACTLY as shown on Nomad of Sakwiki except for the
nail file instead of the small clip blade. Has anyone
encountered this variation? Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Rich S

We were just discussing that variation in the last few days. It's a version of the Nomad made for LL Bean.

Yes, the one pictured there is exactly like mine only without the LL Bean logo. Perhaps it has just worn off or removed since Wenger logos are general just painted. Thanks

Welcome to the forum :)

i can add ,  it is very typical to find variations. The variation small clip blade or nailfile for example. I have encountered this many times, they will have a different number if so. Or even a special number if for a company.

I did experience for example that the Cyclist with the old style bicycle embossed or pad printed had the variation you did mention. Usually we would call both the Cyclist. But names are not always 100% certain, however the variation is not rare. Nice knife

This is also not rare, Wenger have produced many more models and many variations. We are still finding unknown stuff :tu:

Perhaps the LL Bean variation should be added to Sakwiki. Would have saved me and others
a lot of time and typing :-)

Thanks again,
Rich

Thanks for the welcome, but I've been in the knife collecting madhouse for about 60 years.
You name, I've probably collected it: Finnish puukko, IXL folders, 19th C bowies, Japanese
swords, Bronze age pieces, most any sharp pointy thing the strikes my fancy :-)

Hi

Welcome again, respect to you. Maybe we have met before?. Helle knives is collectable :). I have been surprised many times that information is best outside the country, regarding older knives.

....

I'll just repeat here what I said on the SOSAK forum.

Quote
... But that's where the fun is.

If a layer tool changes it is rarely a variation, but a new model. However; sometimes it might be entered as a variation until a name or model number is found. there are several Wenger models though without precise names and just numbers. There is a lot of work to be done in the Wenger section of the Wiki, not to mention everywhere else.

...and of course many people may have learned something new now.

ps... thanks for the support  :salute:   I'm really happy how SAKwiki has turned out even if my wallet is not so thrilled.

We should thank all the people on MTO and the previous SOSAK which contributed much of the information that has been incorporated into the Wiki, and really helps to keep the information broad and accurate.   :salute:
