Just a pix I grabbed while flying over to Northern Ireland earlier today

I missed a great shot at Belfast International (Aldergrove in the old money),where an Antonov AN124 Ruslan was been loaded up
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I didn't take any pictures flying over Indy but I did get to see the Brickyard from the air flying in last week.

Taking pictures from the airplane whilst flying is a good way to pass the time.
Ideally you need to set the camera to focus as far away as possible to avoid it focusing on the window and try to get a seat away from the wings, though sometimes the tip of a wing makes the picture even more interesting. Flights in clear skies or short ones under the clouds are really good for pictures.

really wish I had my DSLR with me when I flew over Switzerland/past Geneva a few years ago for work... was a perfect day to get some amazing photos...

I have taken a few photos going to and coming back from Las Vegas, but none have really turned out the way I'd hoped.  Las Vegas at night looks like a golden lattice on a black background- there's not much else once you get outside of the city, so it's just black everywhere except the lights of the city.  It's amazing.

I also have some photos of the Grand Canyon as we flew over it, although from 35,000 feet it looks more like the Big Ditch than the Grand Canyon!  :D

Sweet pics, keep em coming.

Kinda ticked off that all my really good pics are 35mm...costs so damn much to reproduce.

Does anyone know of a cheap way to have them converted to digital format, and if they come out ok???

Captain,  that is Lisbon. The bridge was made/designed by the same person who made the san Francisco one, I think.  They also have a smaller version of the Jesus statue of Rio, visible in the right side of the picture (I have better pictures).

Swearegen, I used a flatbed scanner, photo quality, with a film scanner attachment to scan all my 35mm films and photos.
Make sure you get a good quality scanner, though you do not need to spend too much money. Basically you need the scanner to be able to send light through the film, from the cover of the scanner to the glass detector surface, and good resolution and software. Remember the film is small so you need avery high resolution, per square cm or inch so that you can blow it up and print it.
You can also buy a dedicated film scanner but you can not use that for anything bigger, so once you scan your films you will not be able to scan any photographs you have, that you do not have their original film.
I can post more on the scanner i have tomorrow.

Love that snow-covered hills/mountains pic.  Both desolate and forbidding, but makes me wanna go there!  I really like to go where nobody is and few have been.  Never can see enough wilderness.

Often I am torn between a great vacation or building my retirement fund (usually I pack a bag once the decision is made).

Friends/relatives often say I'm a bit nuts, but I just feel many frontiers are receding/disappearing and want to see them before they're gone.

@dks---thanks, I'll be shopping some scanners on Amazon soon, recommend anything specific?

The one I bought was the Epson V300 Photo, a few years back.
At the time it offered the best package for my needs at a good price and had really good reviews

Anything with similar specs now should be enough.

Here is a review:

I have no idea what is available now.

Don't have pics of it, sadly, but oh, the view when I flew back from Turkey, flying at night, above the clouds in a thunderstorm. That was awe-some  :D

I think the best view I have had was coming half way round the world from Australia to the UK.

I took sleeping pills and then woke up to see a moonlit, snow capped mountain range below me. I was hopeful that it was the Alps, and that I was nearly home... it was in fact the Himalayas ::)

Utterly stunning, either way :)
