Gerber has got me excited with two products
on: April 14, 2013, 11:30:40 PM
For the first time in a while I am excited for a new gerber product. It has been years since I have felt this way. That doesn't mean I don't like some of their gear. I just have not been excited about their new products for while. I like the MP series from the 400 up to the 600. I like the diesel, (I don't care for many of their other tools and you have probably all heard me complain) and think some of there knives are ok but the new BG pro ultimate ...has my attention. This is the same steel spyderco uses in some of it's knives and was even used in one of their mule knives. So to see geber use it makes me think it could be a really good knife. That fact that it will have a plain edge, a thick blade and comes with a flint and knife sharpener is all the more reason for me to buy it. wether I care for bear or not, this blade actually looks useful. What do you guys think?

And the shift made of forged pliers sounds too good to be true. I am not getting my hopes up but it could be an awesome plier based multi.

Gerber has been really stepping up their game in the last few years, and whether you like their stuff or not, you just have to respect the effort they are putting into it.

I'm looking forward to a few of the new items this year as well.

I've long given Gerber high marks for their clever innovation and not-afraid-to-try-anything designs. :salute: I just hope that the build quality of these latest models will be worthy of similar praise. :salute:

Did everyone see that?  Bob respects Gerber for producing the Steady!  You are all witnesses!  :D

Yup, I am very happy to hear about the fact Gerber are putting forged pliers into a MT.  Another MT first brought to you by Gerber 8)

I'm not sure it's a first if you look at the stuff that Bob's thrown out for the pre-Leatherman era, plus the Wichard tool's pliers were forged I believe .... but they are probably the first for butterfly opening tools and the only ones on the market (when they arrive)

It will make the pliers themselves stronger, but that just moves the weakness to the handles and pivots. If they don't match the strength there, it will defeat the purpose of forging the heads .... and on first glance it doesn't look like they've made the rest of the tool any more heavy duty.

I'll still be interested to see how they come out though  :tu:

The Meyrco paradox was also forged. But it is a very thin plier. Forging gives it potential but plier size and as mentioned. The rest of the tool might not be up to strength.we'll see
