Just finished another knife. Blade is 120 mm Tera Timantti, made by Antti Mäkinen, grand son of Yrjö Puronvarsi. Handle is made of colored burl maple.

Lovely :)

Is the little notch in the blade a decorative or functional thing?

If by notch you mean the little square mark - it is the stamp of the blacksmith, some kind of trade mark. The "function" is only informatic and decorative.

Would it be possible for you to add a picture of the end of the handle of your last knife? Just curious about what shape the handle has. I.e. is it an ellipsis or an egg shape?

It is some kind of egg shape. I'll post picures soon. After soaking in linseed oil, the handle become darker. Next time, when I use such wood I'll apply lighter color before the oil.

Thank you!
Here is how the knife looks now:

Thanks for the pictures of the ends. (Egg shaped with the pointy end in the same direction as your knife is the classic handle shape for Norwegian traditional knives, but I guess I knew that already. :) )

Good looking knife!  :tu:
