ja,s sidekick mods
on: April 15, 2013, 01:59:08 AM
I got the ultimate sak from tattosteve awhile back. Its got the perfect pocket size but I needed more tools so I did some sidekick mods to make it a better match for my needs and eliminate redundant tools.

all my mods where done with sandpaper, stones and a dremil when needed.

I changed every tool but the pliers and flat drivers.

Lanyard ring got sharpened up to a razor edge. Makes a great paper cutter.

the can opener got cut and sanded into a small flat head driver and keeps its wire stripper

the file got a chisel tip . I was trying to keep as much of the tools length. It works

serrated blade got a tip.

I did alot to the blade. I first exchange blades for a combo edge wingman blade. I then sanded the spine to give it a more traditional drop point shape.

the saw got a more rounded tip

pliers and drivers got left alone.

I'm going to get the frame coated orange eventually

its fine the way it is:)

Cool mods! I especially like the lanyard ring cutter, very original. :tu: I also think that it's cool you kept the wire stripper. A chisel file is also cool! And orange?

I like it.
I think I'm going to play with a knock off before trying anything with my Surge. A chisel would be nice and the awl should be more pointed.
You gave me ideas. Thanks.

I like all of your mods shown. But the can opener conversion to a small driver is particularly brilliant. Well done!

Does anyone know if the saw would fit where the blade is?

I think it should

I'll try swapping my blade and saw around tonight after work if no one else knows.

Sweet thanks. I am thinking of locating a saw and replacing the blade on the Wingman as I always carry a folder anyways.

hey captain

she fits. :D

you may have to do a little fine tuning on the liner lock for a perfect fit.

my lock was very very tight but it worked.

I'd imagine the bevel at the base of the saw blade is the mirror image of the knife blade (where the linerlock locates) ? but if you could swap out the main blade for a saw it would make the 'wingman' a good choice for EDC in the UK i think.

they are the same.

its a easy swap

you just may have to file the base of the saw blade a tiny bit .
