I'm not real knowledgeable on the Natives different models. Any way to tell me what model this is. I'm assuming a 4.

That's the Native 1

Native = Sabre-ground S30V handle, FRN scales
Native 3 = VG-10 blade, thicker handle, Japanese made
Native 4 = Carbon Fiber handle
Native 5 = Flat ground S35VN steel, G10 handle

That's a native.

don't let the #'s throw you off.

natives have been the same since the start.

they got it right the first time with the native.

I think the native 2 is a stainless handle model.

edit

I forgot one

there is a low quality native to look out for

back in about 1998 or so I had a native that was assemble by Camillus with a 440 blade that was a piece of junk but now that i think more about it  there collectable now. LOL

I always liked the broad blade on the Native series.  It's a very nice blade to hold and use, and is my second favorite Spydie after the Police.

Yeah, I always kinda forget about the Native 2, but you'll never really see it pop up if you're searching on Amazon but the others might.  Technically the original Native has changed steel types as well since it was first introduced.

Oh.. ok I was way off.  :D Thanks everyone for the info.  :tu: I ordered the one in the link. Can't wait to get it in hand. I was surprised to find out it has no liners, but that's alright with me. I also do not like the pinned construction, but have only heard great things about the fit and finish of the knife so i'm not to worried about it.

I got to add a little native info I known

there is a 3.5 and 4 inch blade versions of the native in the works over at spyderco called the shaman 3.5 in blade and chief 4.0 inch blade.

I got hooked on spydercos awhile back so I'm kinda a spyder nerd but don't worry multitools seem to be curing my spyder addiction.

Good luck- I actually was almost turned off the Natives a few years ago when I got one that was pinned so tight you had to use two hands to open it with the OH hole.   ::)  In hindsight I should have just sent it to Spyderco as it would have been a warranty thing, but I was too disappointed and eventually ended up just trading it away.

Oh great now i'm going to worry about it.  :ahhh Hope it comes with proper tension.  I normally keep my folders tighter than most people, but I can still flick the blade out. If I can't it might be a problem. The only thing that could be a legal issue is if it is loose or becomes loose. If that happens it meets the qualification to be considered a switchblade in California.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make you paranoid!

Spyderco is a pretty good company- I'm sure if you have any issues with it they'll look after you.

Wow, that was fast. The Native arrived today. First impressions are very good. I love the size and grip. The tension on the blade is just about perfect, but i'm worried it will loosen over time and use. Can I just give that pin a whack if I need more tension? Anyways I really like the Native and will give my thoughts after a week or so of carrying.

Mine never loosened up, so I imagine yours won't.  If it does, it will be so gradual you'll probably never notice it.  :D

Stop over thinking it and just enjoy your new toy!  Put it to work and let us know what you think of it!

Can anyone with a Native look at the tang stamp on yours. I noticed it looks etched on not stamped in like all my other Spydercos. I noticed some differences in the stamp/etch than in every other Native I have been able to look at. The most noticeable is the Y in Spyderco. Mine is a U shape and all the others are a V shape. I also noticed on the other side mine has a comma after Golden, and periods in the U.S.A. Normally I would not think this is strange, but I couldn't find a picture online that was like mine so it got me thinking. Any info on this would be appreciated.  :tu:

Thanks Smitty.  :tu: Would you mind checking if the Y in Syderco is the same and the comma after Golden and the Periods in U.S.A.

Capt S., after getting my magnifier out,all the things you ask are different, the y doesn't have the u top on it,no comma, and no periods, you must have a real early model. :salute:

Thank you for checking.  :tu: I doubt its a early model since I bought it a few days ago and it came with the new clip style they recently changed to. I honestly am starting to think its a fake or copy which would really be unpleasant. I need to get to the bottom of this.

My Manix 2 has the same markings as your knife. My Salt 1 is different, with Spyderco being written in uppercase, and the y is "v" shaped. Both were bought at the same store that is an authorized distributor and came in Spyderco boxes. It appears to me that Spyderco is inconsistent with the fonts used. Or they intentionally use different ones for different factories?
