Smart key, dumb driver...

Still chuckling about this one...

Stopped behind a car at the petrol pump earlier and the driver comes over to me and says I should go to another pump because he can't start his car.
As it turns out it was his wife's car (a little Suzuki hatchback thing) and it has a proximity key fob and a "Start" button.

They drove to the shops, she got out (with the keys in her handbag) and he jumped in the drivers seat to go to the service station to put petrol in the car.

Naturally he turned the car off while filling it but when he went to start it again... nothing,
because the proximity key was no longer in proximity.

Last I saw he was on his cell phone telling her she would have to walk down to the gas station so he could start the car.

One step forwards, two steps back.

I really don't understand how inconvenient it is to stick a key in the ignition.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I liked those keys until I saw the episode of Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson took Richard Hammond's Dodge Charger while Hammond was in a restaurant.  Apparently the proximity key was close enough to start the car so Clarkson took it, drove it out to the middle of the road and left it there, blocking traffic.
