Late last year, one of the contractors that we deal with broke his wrist in a zipline accident (don't ask).  He came in one day with a new cast on his wrist after surgery, and was complaining that the doctor didn't leave him enough room to move his thumb.  Out came my US Army issure MP600 and its file, and within a couple of minutes the cast was a lot omore comfortable to him.  :tu:  Getting plaster dust out of the file was a bit of a pain, but worth it......

It's the fact that you took time to take a photo while doing it

:D Easier to illustrate the use when I posted it in the "what did you use your tool for today" thread.  Besides, what good is this forum without lots of pics?

I think the best save I've ever used a MT for was getting half a broken key out of a lock.

Charge Ti, few seconds of fiddling... massive locksmiths bill avoided! :D

Yes, been there too!
Got back to my room, key handle falls off. If I hadn't have had my Wave I'd have been locked out and whilst spare keys were available, I'd have had no way of getting the spare key in with half the old one stuck in.

Ok, so I work for a medical company and one of our products was a spinal traction bed that turns side to side for pulmonary effect while the pt is packed in the bed immobile.

It was 4am when we delivered a bed straight to the helipad for someone coming in. As the staff transported they caught the drive belt on something so bad they pulled it right out of the track so it couldn't turn. Normally you can't fix something like that on site. Tools were not available and it needed to get fixed quick as they refused to move the pt.

None of the guys I worked with even carried mt's but I had my old Leatherman pst.. With it I was able to remove the main cover and belt guide, loosen the belt and get the belt where is should be.. Adjusting the tension and sensor on the way out...

They didn't have to move the pt nor replace the bed.

In my younger years as a wildland firefighter was out on my very first fire - Provo, Utah. We were on the mop-up stage of a fire complex, which is where those involved 'cold trailing' the fireline, put out any hot stops and flair ups, and also provide water and line support to the handcrews.

One day was in ash that was knee deep, looked like nuclear fallout. Had the hot foot big time. Ran out into a clearing, shoes feeling a tad mushy. After the boots cooled off, with help from some water, we had to dig that out and hose it down. In the process the threaded lasting on one boot had come undone and hot ash was getting into my boot.
On lunch break I grabbed the pack from the engine and pulled out my Super Tool, an 'S shaped' cadaver needle, and some government braided nylon cord my uncle procured from McClellan AFB.

Used the awl on the Super Tool to poke holes through the rubber soles, then pushed the needle through the rubber - pulled out the other end, through the leather upper, and finally into the lasting. Then reversed that and repeated. Had my boots back to working order. They did last to the end of the season, but the Super Tool saved not only further misery but also my job.

Here is a photo of my first wildland firefighting outfit on a small flare up. We took advantage of the situation for two quick photos. Used an Olympus XA-1 for most firefighting and cycling photos back in the 90's.

Awesome giveaway! I would love an OHT!

Which time would I pick for my story though? The one that springs to mind instantly is when a friend and I were on a road trip, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It started raining pretty bad, and his windshield wipers were acting up. We pulled over at the nearest rest stop, and with the only tool available (My SOG Powerlock), removed a few covers, tightened a few bolts, and got the things working again.

But it seems like it happens every other day too. The un-prepared: "Damn, I need a screwdriver!" Me: "What size? I've got a bunch!"

I ruined the knife blade, but I opened 2 cans of food while camping because we had no can-opener tool on the Leatherman I had at the time. There are now several packed in our kit. :)

I once used the large screwdriver on my Surge to prop up the front of a UPS just high enough so that I could screw it into a rack. Came in quite handy.

Nothing interesting, just used the tweezers on my keychain Micra to pull splinters out of my hand.

I carried the original leatherman wave for long time (around 10 year), and save the day a lot of times, one of them was that I went to fishing with friends and for some reason nobody bring a knife, and my leaterman pops up to save the day, my leatherman was used to prepare the cook, also was used to cuts the baits and drop the fishes of the hook. from that day all my friends knows the leatherman multitool is an important tool.

Thanks Juli and Leatherman.
The OHT isn't even for sale over here yet so I have to win this one.
Here is my story recently posted in the Flair Owners Unite!¡! thread.

I cleaned up this old user only to have it poached by my better half.
On a girls trip she saved the day when the motels corkscrew was missing.
I found out later when being moaned to when he couldn't find his wife one.

I just used file on my Wave while installing new door handle...latch needed some fine adjusting and diamond file was excellent.

Thanks for this awesome giveaway  :salute:.

Back in the days when I had only one tool (my trusty Supertool) I once used it to get the car keys out of a sewage drain cover, they fell in and got caught in some debris, I took my ST, pulled out the can opener at a 90° angle, opened the file on the other side (so I had a bit of extra reach) and fished them out.

Was at a formal event recently and my rough around the edges brother left the brand name tags on his suit jacket.  Whipped out my Leatherman wave and folded the scissors out and wala, no more tags!

We were riding ATV's in the mountains on a short trip. My brother in law was pulling a small trailer to carry some fire wood. We were crossing a medium sized creek when the trailer came unhooked. The steep bank had caused the hitch pin to come out. We looked for the pin but due to the depth of the water we could not find the pin. We managed to get the trailer out of the creek with tie down straps. But with no pin our only alternative was to ride all the way back to the truck ti find some thing to use as a hitch pin. Then I had an idea. I opened my Wingman and put one of the handles through the hole as a hitch pin. It got us back to the truck and saved us some time. It may not be the intended use but it worked.

I like uses like this :tu:  I've done similar to reach something up on a shelf and pull it to within my reach :D

During college, I worked at a zoo. One spring, we had just opened a large kids area (about four acres) that included animal exhibits, a discovery/play center, and a small water park. I had just gotten my first, and to date only, multitool- a Leatherman Kick. During the first week we were open, I used it to repair several different sprayers in the water area (pliers), tighten down loose screws all over the goat exhibit, and repaired some of the "vines" (rubber coated steel cables) that the kids could climb on (once again, the various fasteners were not adequately tightened). I had purchased the Leatherman thinking it might sometimes come in handy, but I used it far more than I ever expected there.

Back when we were allowed to carry smal knives on planes, my girlfriend (now wife) and I were heading out to the airport. Her cat was in a cardboard carrier and managed to wedge his head in such a way that the only way to extricate him would be to cut the box open. He meowed piteously.

We pulled the car over and I whipped out the SAK (either a Super Tinker or Climber). One quick cut to free him, and problem solved.

At a bbq, no-one had a corkscrew to open a couple of bottles of wine so they ask the guy with the tools. Me.
So I just did like Tim and used the blade from my leatherman to pull the cork out of the bottles.
