So, I started a gig in I.T. a little under a year ago. Menial crap, more or less a glorified intern.
Well the last couple months my boss has been training me to write PHP/mySQL, some Javascript, etc. On top of the usual "I downloaded a file and now my internet stopped working" crap.

Anywho, starting next week I'm finally offcially a full-time employee (for the first time in years) and got a decent raise to go with it. Overall, my total income just went up nearly 100%. I can't even tell you guys how psyched I am. I admit, I'm going to miss my 4 day weekends lol. Feels so good to finally feel like an actual productive person again. Get the truck fixed up, actually start paying my bills again, blow an alarming chunk of my new funds on multis I "need"....

Mostly it's all getting dumped into the truck at first, want to get it all fixed up before winter. I thought about a celebratory multi, but decided the MTO 7th anniversary Wenger I get this week counted lol.

That rough patch never really ended, just sort of tapered off a bit lol. But yeah, hanging in there is FINALLY beginning to pay off.

A few months ago I was able to put together a rough plan in my head on how to piece my life back together. By some miracle of existence I've managed to stick to it and keep things on track. I'm actually a little bit ahead of schedule in fact. I was hoping to still be making a bit more money than I am, but this is close enough to at least get the ball rolling.

There was actually a fair chance of me losing this job completely. A while back all the factory production moved down to Tennessee. Our factory floor is now empty and we've been just using the offices. By the end of Oct. we plan to be in a smaller office space to act as company headquarters. As a result there's been a lot of "restructuring", and we all know what that generally entails. With the Illinois facilities being reduced to just the office staff, there was no real reason to keep me there as a part time I.T. tech, just not enough work for me to do to justify it. Believe me, they would have been completely right to let me go.

My options were pretty much ride it out until the move and then most likely be let go, or find a way to make myself more useful. My boss is actually the one who decided he wanted more help with the software development side of things, and despite me having never written a single line of code in my life 6 months ago, he offered to try training me rather than hiring on someone who knew what they were doing. So I spent the last couple months working my Smurf off to learn what he said I needed to learn, just hoping that I could be competent enough for him to be able to sell the powers that be on the idea of promoting me. Apparently it paid off.

I can still barely claim to have any idea what I'm doing, but he says he's happy with what I've been doing. On paper I "should" be getting paid more than they are offering, but considering my education level (none) and my current level of skill (we have an intern that blows me away) I'd say what I'm getting now is perfectly fair lol. Most importantly though, I love the company and the people. It's the first job I've had where I genuinely want to stay for as long as possible. They gave me one Hell of an opportunity that most any other company never would have even considered, and they have been nothing but great to work for ever since. The fact that my commute one-way is less than 10 minutes certainly doesn't hurt either, and some of the places they're looking at moving to are even closer! In fact one option is literally at the end of my street less than a block away.

Like I said before, thank's again guys, I love this place. You have all been there through all the crap, a couple of you have been excessively generous in fact (you know who you are, and again can't thank you enough). Maybe now once I get things caught back up a bit for myself I'll finally be able to start giving something back to our wonderful, odd little community here.
