What did you do with your one piece tool today?
« on: August 21, 2013, 10:01:53 PM »
This is a thread that's been sorely lacking.  >:(

So, to start of Post #1 of what I predict will be a top 10 thread within a few months:

Today I used my PocketWrench II to fix the secretary's electric stapler that was jammed up.  PocketWrench II--a kingmaker!  :salute:

Any pictures? Was she cute? :D

Of the secretary of course. ;) We know how a Pocketwrench II looks like. :P

Good idea for a thread, Nate.

No matter how I try,I find my way to the same old jams.

There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

PocketTool X Piranha (Leatherman now...)

Pulled a bunch of electrician staples.  (Excellent tool for that job!)

Today, I was hanging a new outdoor light.  The ground screw was tightly fastened, with a hex head and Phillips slots.  I could not get it to budge with my Leatherman Squirt ES4, Leatherman Charge or Vic Cybertool.  Before resorting to going and getting the impact driver, I tried my Atwood Crypto (with 1/4 bit opening).   It turned the hex head with no issues.  :)

Not today, but last week, I used my Pocketwrench II to install two G-hooks (are they called that in English?) to a couple of lights used at a band performance.

I attached a154CM Piranha 2 to a spare house key in my garage toolbox. Never use for anything else, so it just helps new locate my key when I get locked out of the house. My Craftsman 4way driver popped the tab on a soda. I don't use my few one piece tools that much

I used my new titanium OPMT as a wedge to open a steel clip:

This is the clip. The thick main part is about 2.4 mm thick, so it's very difficult to bend by hand.

This is my "Tiremet" tool, which I got from eBay. It has hex wrenches, bottle opener, screwdriver and package opener. I got it mainly for the package opener. If you Buy It Now, it costs $23 USD but I got it from auction.

This is it forced into the clip (reenacted picture). The tool is 4 mm thick, which I thought was a bit bulky, but as a wedge the thickness is useful.

Unsurprisingly, it suffered a few scratches, but only on the surface. It fared much better than aluminium would have, which it weighs similar to!

I realised this wedge function is something my existing tools don't have, and it might come in useful. If I didn't have this OPMT, what would I have used? A screwdriver, I guess, or maybe a fork. But the screwdriver needs to have a very thin point, and e.g. the Leatherman Rebar's screwdrivers don't have this.

I'm confused

I thought piranha 2s are made from 420 stainless.

I know my ptx piranha is made of 154cm I thought all leatherman tools are made of 420 stainless

am I wrong ?

PS

I used my pocketwrench 2 to remove the screw holding the air filter onto my mower this evening.

I pried a pebble from the sole of my shoe using a Nite-Ize DoohicKey.  Been doing that often with Schrade titanium pry tool, as well.

I used my Atwood Crypto to fix a broken frost free hydrant.  I used the prytip (with the hammering of a pipe wrench) to break free the side plates on the handle.  The open end alligator wrench was used to loosen nuts that hold the handle on and the slider bolt that pinches the long valve rod.

I used the bottle opener. I don't drink from those bottles, so I don't think I've ever used one. This was a bottle of cough mixture whose stopper was difficult to open. It worked quite well, despite being a different size and material from normal bottles.
