My Pen Is...

... if not mightier then at least as cool as a sword!  Sorry, I couldn't help it, get your mind out of the gutter! 



The CRKT TAO Pen designed by noted knife designer Allen Elishewitz comes in a really nice case, although I can't imagine that would be useful for much more than displaying the pen.



See?  There is a pen in there, and what a cool pen it is.  Like all tactical pens this one is a bit on the heavy side but it looks oh so cool. 



You can't help but think about how cool it would be to write a sternly worded letter to your congressman with a pen like this.  They'd know you mean business when they get a letter written by this bad boy!



Like many of the higher end tactical pens this one has a screw off cap that screws on to the back end when you use it as a pen, or when you need a sharp end for dispatching ninjas, terrorists or in-laws.



The end of the cap is an "ash tray" style, perfect for impacts to bony regions.



The other end of the pen is smaller for really penetrating into muscle mass and nerve points.  Plus it has the AE that is Allen's signature.



And, once you have expelled all of the ink in the neck of some bad guy, CRKT sells refills, although they look very much like standard Parker refills to me.



Those of you that look closely at photos may have noticed that it looks like there's something written on the cap of this pen.  Well, you are right, there is, and I was saving it till the end, because it is the part that makes this the coolest CRKT TAO Pen you are likely to ever see.



That's right, this particular pen was the 2011 SHOT Show Giveaway.  I have an extra that you'll be seeing here very soon, but for now, this one was just too cool not to share.

There's an amusing story loosely associated with this pen, but I'll save that for later!

It actually is pretty sweet. It costs almost ten times as much as the Smith & Wesson tactical pen I have, but you can really feel the difference between the two.  Is it worth almost ten times as much?  Probably not, but if I ever needed to use it for its intended purpose, it wouldn't be too far off that.

Curiosity is very powerful.   
besides smurfland.com Pen Island . com sells pens.    auto cleaned up,  pen island run together looks like something else

The TAO pen was originally supposed to be a giveaway for the 2010 SHOT Show, but they were scrapped a day or two before the show because of a little problem.  At the last moment someone noticed that they were accidentally imprinted with "Thank You, 2010 SHOT Shot."  I begged them to give me one of those as I love silly mistakes like that (when they are someone else's anyway!  ) but they refused.  I figure a few hundred of these pens were scrapped because of that boo boo, and it also meant that CRKT Had nothing to give away that year!   

I'll post pics of the 2012 Giveaway shortly.  I didn't attend the 2013 SHOT Show so I don't know what giveaway they had last year.  With any luck I'll be telling you what the 2014 Giveaway is!
