Does the OHT come with the molle sheath? If it does is there a sleeve in it, like the one for the MUT which can carry the Leatherman wrench? If it does it would be a great place to carry the file you need! Just an idea that i hope makes sense.

while doing some wiring in a crawl  space I found the ohts worst enemy.

Sand.

it fills up with it easy and while the tools still worked I was afraid it would lock up.

I knocked it out pretty good before I tried to open it but even after a good snacking out the pliers where very gritty and rough to open. I didn't pack in full of sand either. I just dropped it and picked it right back up.

One would think that since this tool has been marketed as a "tacti-cool" tool aimed at military types, that it would be resilient enough to stand up to generous doses of sand, mud, crazy humidity, and the whole spectrum of conditions that could be experienced on duty. A few years ago, I carried my Gerber MP400 with me to Qatar from Sept-Jan, and it suffered no ill effects from a few sandstorms, and some the highest humidity I have ever encountered.

Although, Minnesota mosquitoes may be something that Leatherman didn't plan on. Keep that baby on a chain!

you got me thinking rdub934

I might have to test the oht and see if it jams up or not.

I'm going to pack it full of sand and gravel later today to see if it locks up or not.

I know I said I wasn't gonna try hurt this leatherman on porpoise. But I had to find out if it will lock up on me if it gets pack full of crap.

so here's my little experiment .

first I used it as a little shovel to fill it full of small pebbles and dirt/sand

I had to take a pic with the flash to show how full of debris it was.

here's what shook out of it

and here's the important part. The pliers opened up with a quick flick of the wrist. I usually slid the pliers open but in a emergency I'd flick them open because it is faster.

No Damage was done to this sweet looking leatherman while making this post

That's what I'm talking about! That is pretty astounding actually, that's a lot of crap in that OHT. But if LM really intended this tool for use by the military in the combat zones of the world, there is a chance that somebody could find themselves in a situation similar to what you have simulated. Glad to see it not only survived, but was functional.

Leatherman should give you a cut of OHT sales after this - I want one now, too. Lol

+1  :tu:  very impressed that the OHT was able to recover so quickly, and that you were able to simply shake the debris out and flick the pliers open without using a brush or anything to clear out the debris.

thanks, Joel... my interest in this tool has gone WAY up since you started this thread!  :P

Thanks again Nhoj

  I just had a idea

the oht has a threaded whole in it for a gun cleaning rod.

I'm going to try find a small file to cut down and put the right size threads on to fit the whole in the oht.

I'm unsure if it will work or not

 like  I said it's just a idea.

if it works it will work in the mutt the same way.

That is a LOT more crud than it ever took to gum up the gerbers I've owned. That is very impressive, and it might mean that I'll revise my opinion of this type of opening.

I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan on the rescue/gutting blade
I used it to trim 100s of feet of 6mil plastic and I got to say it works excellent .
its turned into my favorite blade to use on this tool.
safe to use and cuts like a laser through plastic sheeting.
