Juice XE6 or Wave for City Slicker?
on: May 07, 2008, 08:23:00 AM
The prices for the Juice XE6 are $62 (Purple) or $72 (Gray).  The price for the Wave with leather pouch is $62.

If you live in an urban environment, and wanted either the Juice XE6 or the Wave for every day carry in your briefcase/laptop messenger bag (and NOT the pocket), which would you choose?

The prices are almost the same.

The Wave by a country mile. I have both and while I like them both, I much prefer the Wave.

My favorite multitools are the Wave, Charge and Swisstool Spirit. I think you would be happy with any of these three.

The Juice is a good tool, but it lacks locking tools and the pliers are a little on the small size for my use.

IMOHO, get the juice its perfect for light work on urban setting, plus one hand opening and locking blade alarms some people prone to over reaction.
Multitools are the best thing that happened to mankind since the invention of the wheel!

BOTH!!  The Wave(preferably Charge) in your messenger bag.  The XE6 in your pocket.

Like it or lump it, Juice(s) were born for the pocket ;)

Or better still, get a belt pouch for it, and have it attached next to your cellphone pouch. Create your own batbelt :pok:

But just make sure you don't show/use LMs(or any MTs for that matter), around management.  Inside the warped, twisted unimaginative, beaureaucratic, efficious, callous, dogmatic, perversly paranoid thinking of your average manager/executive:"my subordinate has a LM.  He's a thinker. He's a problem solver/troubleshooter.  He's smarter than me.  He's can replace me. Threat level against me HIGH.  Must fire employee, or make him quit!!!" :ahhh

I agree about the Juice being a pocket carry item.  I have a CS4 and when it's on me it lives in my pocket.  Then again my Charge and Wave I also carry in my pocket with the clip.  I suppose if I had to choose only one it would be the Wave.  I don't seem to carry my Juice as much as my other MT's.  My Charge (basically a fancy Wave) seems to be the tool I grab most often.

If it has to be one or the other - go for the Wave!

I say this, because (apart from the corkscrew) there's not a lot of things that the Juice can do, that the Wave can't handle, whereas the Juice might struggle with heavier duty tasks.

Myself, I EDC a Micra in my pocket, and a Charge TTi (comparable to the Wave) in my laptop bag. I've never really missed the corkscrew at work!
I used to come here a lot.

I would go for the Wave. The one handed blades win it over for me. But, the Juice has great scissors.. It all depends on what you want. If you want good pliers get the Wave. Or, if you want a medium sized tool then get the XE6! What about the Vic Spirit? It is tough, light, and has a whole lot of functions. Plus, I love the Spirit's sheath!

I think the Wave also. If you're not going to carry it in your pocket then the Wave is a gives you a much more robust tool. If you have the extra money get a bit extender for it though. The bits are a little short for some things.

Both, so they compliment each other.

But if you're a SAK fan, Go with the Juice. All the external features are neat.

Thanks for all the input!

Well, I just placed an order for the Wave and the 42 bit kit.

But, now I'm wondering if I should get a Juice S2 or CS4 instead of the XE6 for pocket carry since the S2 and CS4 are a lot lighter.  I was comparing the XE6 to the wave because they're both pretty heavy.

Have you looked at the skeletool?

You might want to consider the Skeletool as well as the Juice. The pliers are similar and you get a pocket clip with the Skeletool.

You can also get a pocket clip for the wave. I highly recommend it.

I have a SAK addiction, and now it looks like I'm getting a Leatherman one, too.

I had an S2 for just a day previously and had to return it because of a defect.  I have to think about the Skeletool, because I generally like having scissors.  But, I suppose I could just carry the Squirt S4 instead of the P4 more often, too.

I have to admit that I'm not sure how I'm going to plan my EDC rotation with my Vic SAKs if I get a Skeletool CX with that great blade steel, too.  Do any of you EDC a SAK with your Leatherman?

I do, a vic compact in my left front pocket and a multitool on belt, or clipped to left back pocket.

I have to say I disagree with the Juice being pocketable.  Most Juice models, yes, but the XE6 is a brick weighing more than many full sized tools, and being awkwardly wide as well.  It's a good tool, but it is awkward and bulky and you will end up wanting to sheath carry it because it just doesn't fit in the pocket well at all.

I'd say YES on the S2. :) It's a great, easily pocketable tool for light duty EDC. And if you already have a wave for bigger tasks, I think the S2 would be a perfect 2nd option.

 ???

I got the Wave and think it's awesome.

I have a Juice S2 ordered and on its way.

I now just ordered a Skeletool CX...

OMG

I just wanted ONE Leatherman for my bag!

So, it's not just appropriate to say "buy both" when asking about Leatherman A vs. B.
It's now, "buy both and also ..."

Thanks for all the great advice.  I'm a SAK guy, but in the multitool world, there's enough space for more than just a few tools in the rotation (thank, God!)

I dare say we all did in the beginning. It just doesn't work that way though.

First it's just a Wave, then a Juice, but it's OK you've got it under control. Then you spot a Charge on ebay at a price you can't resist. then a Surge, then a Crunch etc, etc.

Before you know it your kids have no shoes......
