Any Boker Pry-Mini fans here?
on: September 09, 2013, 06:00:02 AM
Just got mine and overall I think that I like it.

In summary:

Small fixed blade (2 1/2" blade, 5 1/4" overall). 5 mm blade spine (compared with his bigger brother the Pry-Mate which is 7 mm), N690BO steel, black Micarta scales with red liners, what appears to be a well formed Kydex sheath with a mini Tek-Lok set included (not pictured here).

Ergonomics could be a bit better and the knife could have arrived with a better edge from factory but overall it is very nicely built, looks awesome and looks that it can be used well from fine to heavier cutting tasks, at least in my personal experience (various people opinions may differ here for a knife so small).

So, as the title says, is anyone here a fan of this small knife or his bigger brother the Pry-Mate?

The Kydex sheath that came with it. Since then I tried the mini Tek-Lok and it works very well to be carried on a belt in several positions (no risk to slip out of the sheath when mounted upside down, it's held snug at the handle), although naked like this it slips nicely into a pocket and for some myself included it may work better this way.

I personally think 5mm is ridiculously thick for a knife of that size.  Knives are meant to cut, are they not?

The blade is thick only towards the spine. For me the shortness of the blade would be a more limiting factor for cutting in general than the exaggerate thickness - which in some scenarios could even help separate the things cut.

Cuts very well small things, soft and hard. It's not a work knife really so small, no matter how thick the blade is. But for fun and some EDC utility it sure is a nice one.

To me it feels a bit like a three finger cleaver mated with an electrician's pocket knife.

As thick as it is it does not feel heavy though. And I have many SAKs that feel both heavier and bulkier when carried in a pocket.

I like the bigger one "Pry-Mate", just say it out loud
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I found the Pry-Mate a few days ago and was intrigued by the design (VoxKnives) and how it was done by Boker. I debated between getting a Pry-Mate or Pry-Mini for a taste of the Pry series and decided for the smaller one. Both are very similar, interesting, eye catching design but little utility. And the bigger one is more likely to sit in a drawer unused than the smaller one because it is less portable (I don't see myself pocketing that one).

I am really the only one here who likes the Pry-Mini?

:D
