foursevens warranty?
on: September 15, 2013, 03:48:42 AM
So my malstorm x10 died after a year of seldom desk duty. I went to look up the warranty and apparently they no longer warranty it if you bought it from another retailer and just ask you to deal with whoever you bought it from instead.  ???

I'm definitely not happy with them, so far the lights I bought either from them or their brand has 50% kaput rate, and the two times I've dealt with them on warranty issue took 4 to 6 months to resolve and I had to keep chasing them down to get any result. Certainly feels like their attitude is "we have your money so piss off". Now they don't even deal with warranty issue anymore.

I just fired off an email to them and the retailer and will see how this goes.

Probably another victim of their own success. Same deal with dealextreme, which used to be great, but with expansion comes higher price and they manage to screw up my last 3 or 4 orders in a row, either defective, wrong, or missing item.

That is really bad news. Although you haven't been the first one with bad experiences. That's why Jetbeam and Nightcore are gaining on in terms of popularity

That's crap. Foursevens offers a 10 year warranty, but anything bought from one of their resellers has to be dealt with by that seller.

They could learn a lot from Leatherman.

I regretfully can't say I'm surprised to read this. :( I've had some troubles dealing with their warranty department. As much as I like my Quarks and the lego capabilities they offer I don't think I'll be ordering any of their lights any time soon. And I used to recommend them highly. :-\ On top of the bad CS they also upped the prices on almost all of their models when they moved from 4sevens to foursevens. ::)

I've seen many videos on YouTube with people complaining about the warranty/customer service/some stuff not working on their Preon 2s ... this is why I eventually didn't buy a preon which I wanted very much.

Almost a month ago I was given a penlight by Olight to review... and i'd read before that that this particular penlight flashlight was designed /worked on together with Foursevens ... and this alarmed me, I recalled the vids I'd seen about the not working Preons. Soon after this, my penlight unscrewed easily at a place it wasn't supposed to unscrew. Then, because of that or something else, it started flickering. The guy who provided the light was very kind, so he took it back and seemingly dealt with the flickering problem. However, the ... thing which shouldn't be unscrewed, still unscrews pretty easily... this makes me thing taht the flickering problem was caused by something else and the fact I unscrewed something didn't influence it much.

Anywya, not long ago the clip of the penlight bent accidentally and very easily. I've carried the way I carried this light several other flashlights by Olight, so I was very puzzled when the clip on this one bent. And the fact that the very same flashlight is made with Foursevens' logo makes me very suspicious of the quality of the lights that Foursevens offer... Maybe I'm prejudiced or think in the wrong direction, but... two purely Olight flahslights work 100% well and now suddenly something which was designed by Olight aaaaaaand Foursevens kinda failed twice.

Funny, preon 2 was one of the broken lights I had to deal with warranty. I dropped it 3 or 4 ft on the floor, and it started buzzing really loud, like a fly is inside. Sent it back, and was told it's in repair queue (it was neutral white and they had no replacement) everytime I emailed them. Finally after many months of waiting with not even an estimation on when I can get it back, I asked for store credit instead.

The design was good, slick looking and very functional, but quality isn't there to back it up.

The retailer got back to me, seems the way it works is foursevens will repair the light bought elsewhere, however not refund or exchange them (why would anyone to that with manufacturer not the retailer? I'm pretty sure no other manufacturers accept return bought from retailer but they don't try to confuse the situation by dedicating an entire paragraph about they don't accept returns on their warranty page to confuse things...)

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer I'll give you that, but when you see this on their warranty page, it does get a little confusing, since warranty claim is a "return".

In other words, if you didn't buy the light from us, please contact the store you bought it from concerning returns or exchanges.

That is very confusing and a bad way to deal with customers. I'd say maybe it's a Canadian thing as I remember reading that another guy from Canada had serious issues with his 4Sevens (it exploded or something like that) and it was a b**** fest with the warranty claims

Update, sort of.

47 offered RMA, the do repair lights bought from other retailers but their warranty page wording is confusing enough that even the retailer admits he had to read it many times to get it.

I ended up fixing the flashlight myself though. For whatever reason they decided to glue the top of the tube with the head, however the threadlock they used isn't what we are used to, but some gooey tacky stuff that never hardens. The o-ring they used on tail cap is slightly too thick and need a lot of force to unscrew. Because of this and the unhardened goo the head and tube gradually comes unscrewed by a tiny amount, and broke electrical contact. However the goo still offer enough resistance so the head and tube appears to be fine.

I'm happy it's working again without another 4 months wait, but it could've been avoided if they used appropriate material.

good news that you fixed it. Will 4sevens see any more businesses from you?

Well I'm glad you managed to get it sorted without having to send it in, but 4Seven's attitude does seem pretty poor to me.  :-\
