Too Engrave Or Too Not Engrave ? The Answer pics
on: May 09, 2008, 03:33:11 AM
I have bought a friend/work colleague a swisstool X , I have known Dave for 12yrs he is about to retire & is going from working as a hospital coordinator(supervisor) to working on his brothers pig farm. I am hoping he is giving me a great reference for a new job I have applied for. Anyway he gave me a compost tumbler he had lying around small farm & I wanted to give him something for it & a early retirement present. To engrave the swisstool or leave it nude, if I did it would probably would just be engraved with "Dave" . What does everyone think, too cut or leave as is?

Engrave it!!!!!!!!!! Here is a pic of engraving I did on my Spirit. It wasn't a gift, I just wanted to do something that was a little special to me. The 1st is my son's birthday, the second is my wife's birthday and the 3rd is our anniversary. I think they did a good job.

That's why I'm getting married next month... 6/7/08 should be a pretty easy date to remember!

I say Engrave it- but then I often do it for gifts for a much more nefarious reason!  Many of my friends are the trading type, and often items I end up giving them are traded or sold shortly afterwards.  By putting their name on it, you are making it less interesting to someone else, and they are often forced to keep it!  >:D

Unless of course they are someone famous, or at least have a famous name, like my uncle, Bob Hope!

If you're a man you'll still forget it. My wife's birthday, 7-2 is only 2 days before Independence Day, so if I'm buying fireworks I also need to be buying a present. And our anniversary is 10-26 which is 1 week after my birthday. Yet I still have trouble remembering.  :-[

Def that is very cunning , I often baulk when looking at a 2nd hand multi if it has been engraved. I think it is settled I will cut the swisstool. Thanks everyone for your input , interestingly no purists for leaving the tools surface intact.

I did that once , record amounts of cold shoulder followed. I think ice ages are caused by ticked off wifes/mothers. I am still claiming a epic victory when I remembered the wedding anniversary and she forgot , all be it a number of years ago.

I bet you feel pretty bad about that. If you feel bad enough you might need to buy yourself a new knife/multitool to ease the burden.  :D

If you don't feel bad enough about it you could kick your butt until you do. Think Jim Carry in Liar Liar.

If that doesn't work you could get another multitool engraved with all the dates you can think of, but be sure to leave one date missing for the next time.   ;)

Actually not TOO bad. I take a lot of pain medicine so my wife forgives my bad memory most of the time. My Dad gave me hell about it though, but he loves any chance to give me hell.
