That really sucks!  Government work and contracts can suck. 90% of what the company I work for does is based off of government contracts, and if they ever lost a big one there could be major layoffs.

You frequent this place, and still manage to save most of your money   Seriously though, this government business is ridiculous.  My brother in law may end up in the same situation as well.  I hope they get their act straight soon so that you can get back to work.  You're a smart fella though, and can probably make some money off of the side computer support type jobs you may do.  Good luck buddy

Thanks guys,  I will be OK,  not to worry.  I do not have the SAKs, and Multitools I would love to have, because I know the importance of plan B funding.  (especially as a Gov worker these past few years)

I can easily weather a month, I won't like it, but I can.

I try to put 20% of my net pay into savings/investments/etc.  I cannot always make that happen, but I try.
yes this means I have less fun money, and I do not "keep up with the jones's"  and I might not have some things I want,  but it also means I do not go into panic mode when they mess with my pay YET AGAIN!

I choose to work as a Civil servant, I like working for the people and the Military (I work for the Navy/DoD).  the politicians have stigmatized the federal workers.  I walked away from a job offer that paid double what I make to work for the people.      
so now that the average tax-payer wrongfully views me as the cause of the financial problems.    Thanks Congress!

Hope you get back to work soon, my friend. I do agree on putting some money to the side for rainy days. It helped me a lot in the past to bail myself, and my parents, out of unforeseen monetary problems. Yes, the unofficial motto here sometimes is "Buy both!" but not right away. Sometimes it's enough just to come here and over pics of someone elses gear.

Politicians make so much money that they lost touch with the man in the street. I live in Spain, and here I see the same. Their job is steering a country to be better, not down into a financial abbys. Obviously, they did not do their job.  If we don't do our job, we get fired. The politicians responsible for this should named and blamed, sacked on the spot and escorted out of their offices.

well, I hope so too, but their real life game of "I still get paid, so who cares if I shut this place down" it is hard to say. I think they should only get paid once they have a budget, but they wrote the rules and therefore the rules say they get paid!

good point!  I guess I didn't think of it as political because it was personal.  I do agree with leaving politics out of it.  I will replace all political words with gargamel
