I hope you don't mind a short story.
In the mid 70's, as a new leo, I purchased a Normark folding (non locking single blade) knife. I recall buying it in a hardware store. The only other model of Normark at the time was a fixed blade filleting knife. I carried and used it on the job for a few years. In the late 70's a friend was planning to travel to Europe and the middle east and at the last moment mentioned that she did not have a knife to take. I loaned her the Normark. A Swiss army knife would have been more suitable but I suspect I did not have one at that time.
She was gone for a few months and upon her return she gave me back my knife. It was in rough shape with a few gouges taken out of the blade and handle. It transpired that the knife had been used as a can opener on a regular basis since there was nothing else available for that task. The knife has since resided in a drawer and in my shop. Here it is:

It was made by Eka and appears very similar to their Swede 38. The steel is very good at taking an edge and retaining it.
My friend felt bad about the abuse given the knife so presented me with a new one that was made in a market place - in Egypt as I recall. Not sure about the edge retention and it has not been an edc knife for me but it is certainly different.

Recently I decided to make new scales for the Normark. I had some scraps of orange actionwood (dyed and laminated maple/birch) so used that. I'm not totally happy with the oil finish and may replace it in future. Here it is in it's recent guise.

I've cleaned up the blade to a "working" level although there is still a very small piece of it missing at the tip.
Thanks for looking,
John.
