Vic Hunter Pro?
on: September 21, 2013, 04:09:55 PM
Hi, I've been wondering has anyone bought the Hunter Pro?
It seems like a good knife but I would much rather buy the Spyderco Endura for that price.

It wasn't very popular when it was first released, whether they're fixed the issues I don't know.

That review makes it look very bad. I wouldn't pay this much for it.

it is more expensive than an endura in my country, i have an endura 4, i examined hunter pro.i think it is very expensive.if i want a vic hunting folder, i will go for the oho forester, swiss army knife '08 etc.more tools about the half price.if i want a single folder with swiss steel go for a sentinel about 1/4 price.hunter pro is an over-rated and over-priced toy for collectioners.

The One Hand Sentinel is a nice knife.

Of all the knives and MTs and SAKs I have purchased over the years, it is my favorite. Slim, easy to sharpen, takes a razor edge, non-threatening appearance to the nannies of the world, durable, toothpick and tweezers, and cheap as chips. That last bit is what really makes it shine. Buy two.

But the Ranger is bigger.

Unwieldy. The Sentinel disappears into a pocket.

Besides, other than  :o ...what do I need all that blade for on an EDC knife? My daily pocket knife chores do not include skinning water buffalo. If I should find myself needing to, I have a Mora Bushcraft Black or Companion in my kit bag anyway. If I were to need more than that, there is a kukri in the jeep that could handle water buffalo butchering chores if the Mora turns in it's notice.. Which it won't.

For me the daily knife work is more likely to involve slicing open a bag of jerky, removing a bothersome bit from the inside of my boot, or sharpening a stick.

Thus the Sentinel. I prefer OHO for daily use.

An Explorer is often in my pocket as well.

What is the point of having the microscope thingy in the Explorer?

It is opposite the Phillips. Aside from that, for me it is useless. I have used it to get a better view of splinters.. Or fossils on occasion. Perhaps that makes it worthwhile.

I have tried with no success. I would venture to guess that it is possible only under ideal conditions of very hot full sun and lots of dry perfect tinder. Personally, "ideal conditions" does not meet my requirement for a back up fire making method. I keep a Bausch and Lomb loupe in my kit instead.

For someone who has trouble reading fine print, I imagine the mag glass on the Explorer would be terrifically useful. I do not have that issue.
