Ruminations on the Benchmade Triage 915
on: November 11, 2013, 03:30:46 AM
I've been EDCing a Triage 915 for a couple of years now.  I had reservations about the N680 steel in the beginning.  It didn't seem to hold the edge I wanted.  After some trial and error, I thinned it down to suit me and got a hair popping edge that is easy to maintain.

The Triage is my work EDC.  My work is frequently 10-14 hour days, 5-6 and sometimes 7 days per week.  I don't do anything spectacular with a knife.  My knife does the standard opening of packages, stripping wire, sometimes cutting microphone cable and was once called to duty as a steak knife.

The Triage is not the prettiest knife around.  The modified sheepsfoot blade is a good hard-use design.  The orange G10 handles are grippy enough without destroying my pants.  The cutting hook is the best cable tie cutter I have tried.  I haven't needed the glass breaker, fortunately.  The knife flicks open easily and locks positively with the Axis lock.

After a couple of years of regular use, I can heartily recommend the Triage 915 as a serious working knife.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I wouldn't trade it.  Some mornings I will think about carrying something else, but just about every time I go back to the Triage.

I love the blade shape, and I've eyed one up in the past.

The problem is I then look at the price and gulp.

I very rarely need a stabby knife, one that had a decent belly and isn't going to do any accidental damage is exactly what I'm after. That's one of the few things I like about the Gerber Dime.

Yes, the Triage was expensive.  I think I paid around $120.00.  If I factor that over the number of days I've carried and used it, the price just disappears.  While I never would have believed it, the Triage has been worth every penny.

(How's that for a total rationalization?!)
