You sure have talent... I have been watching your mods from the backround for awhile. I am impressed. Where does all that come from?
Necessity is mother of invention, or in my case, a huge curiosity of why things aren't the way I like. So its my necessity of making things mine.
They are also great to cut Theraband for your slingshot or cloth (its why the Bernina has a rotary cutter). AND Pizza, never forget pizza 
I have been trying to find a Bernina tool for EVER and can't seem to land a decently priced one. One of my grail tools.
That is a really cool looking cutter!!!
I've seen some folks using it for leather but I did not knew you could use it for nylon.
One last thing, the guard is simply (but not less effective of course) a disc larger than the cutter?
It's more like a lollipop shape with a pill shape cut out at the pivot so it can slide into closed and active position. I am waiting on some thumb screws to complete the mechanism so it can be tool free adjustment.
