How would I get it fixed? I think it happened after I cut some wire

You can send it in or use a hammer and punch and smack the pivot od few tims to tighten up. If you don't won't the marks on the pivot, you can use the ball on a ballpeen hammer too.

It depends on what you mean by normal... Every Swisstool I've tried has a loose plier pivot with lateral play. That's four Spirits (2 RTs, an S and an X), and a regular Swisstool X. All of them had play in the pliers.

I sent one RT in to Victorinox with a detailed notation of the plier's problem. It came back two months later completely untouched. Play was still there, a question mark was written on the packing slip, and that was pretty much it.

Normal? Maybe not, but not uncommon at all. Your best best is as mentioned above, fix it yourself.

I've owned seven or eight Swisstools and Spirits and they have all had some play in the pivot and I reckon it's the norm. There has been plenty of discussion about this in the past, you might try a search. My current ST has this play but the wire cutters work just fine on stranded wire. Maybe this play from new is engineered in deliberately by Victorinox?  It's a bit of a puzzler .. Victorinox have high standards and they are obviously aware of this issue. Maybe they think it is not a problem?? Who knows  :D

I have couple of Spirits and SwissTools that are the opposite - the pivot is too tight. So tight that the pliers won't open freely. I also have ones with a bit of play in the pivot there, some more than others. I prefer the ones with a bit of play over the ones that are too tight. Of course over all I prefer the ones that have the pivot done right. Unfortunately many aren't like this. Swiss precision ::)
