And here’s one I got a few weeks back... Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS) knife... A variation of the Rucksack replacing the corkscrew with phillips...

(Image removed from quote.)

Isn't that the earliest variation of Trailmaster/Trekker (slide-lock)?

Yes, its a slidelick model... not too sure if this particular one is the earlier production model though

From SAKWiki:“An earlier version, probably marketed as the Trailmaster, had red Nylon scales with a slide-lock.“
If that version of Trailmaster/Trekker existed, I don't see a reason for calling it a variation of some different model. Just my thoughts 🤔😉

Question for the Knights...

Is there I way that I can be sure of the year stamped on a new Soldier, still in the plastic packaging?  Is there some indication on the outside?  Serial number?

I want to give one as a gift, but it would be less... gifty... if the year was wrong.

Sadly, there is no way that I know of.  Even if there is some artifact or evidence, such as an original sales receipt, all that tells you is that the knife will be stamped prior to or equal to that date. And it may have been on the original retailer's shelf for some time before its original purchaser bought it.   And a copyright date on the packaging could be before the year stamp of the knife by quite a few years.   So I think the only way to know for sure is to open the package and find out.

 :iagree:
Even when I bought mine at SMKW, they had to open it to check the year.

The one I got is in a plastic/cardboard package - opening it would be not so... posh.

I have the same problem, I'm looking for a Vic Soldier from 2016 (birth year of our little girl), I already bought her the yearly Limited Edition Pioneer from 2016 (you know, the purple/pink-is one), but would like to get her a 2016 Soldier as well (since I did the same for my boys with their 2005 and 2006 Soldiers).

I've been trying my best to see if I could spot a date on the blister packed Soldiers at a local outdoors shop, but no way you can see it while they are still in their blister package.

So I asked the shop owner if he had these in his shop for a while, but turned out he only ordered and received them around August last year, so chances of them being 2016 Soldiers are very small..

Philodemus, your collection is just so superb.  That South African NSN has been on my list forever.  And I have never seen the Canadian collector edition.  Must be super rare.  Very nice.

Myron
