How to handle an ebay issue?
on: January 25, 2014, 05:45:49 PM
I purchased a stay glow Climber from ebay the other day, and it just arrived.

Description: "Knife is in like-new condition but has been carried one time".

So I get the knife in today. It does not 'snap'. It sounds like it might have sand, or some other gritty substance in it. Like it'd been pocket carried for 3 years, or maybe dropped in the sand at a beach. The scales show the kind of scuffing I'd expect from a LOT more than 'carried one time'. One side of the main blade has fine scratches, like maybe a bad attempt at sharpening. Both long and short blade are ragged paper-cuttign sharp at best, not anywhere near what they come as from the factory. The scissors show considerable scratching on the insides of the blades (where they touch) and the blade edges show a few imperfections from use. What I'd consider with months of moderate use.

I paid $19 for the tool, and in its current condition, I'm happy wit hit at that price, but it's CERTAINLY not anywhere near 'like-new'.

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to handle this, or is it even worth raising an issue?

Some looks at the condition of the tool:

The scales, removed, have dirt residue. This is after I scrubbed the knife down with scales still on. No telling how much was in it before that.

The main blade. Those fine scratches don't look like a 'like new' condition to me.

And the massive scuffing/abrasion to the inside of the scissor blade.

On a related note... Hey, I did my first SAK cleaning with scale removal!
Scales popped right back on, snug as a factory fit.  :tu:

That SAK obviously been carried a good while.  You know, you might just want to clean that sucker up real good (looks like you already have), and use it and have fun with it.  And go on with life.

You might ask the seller to refund your money and pay your return shipping cost.  Giving bad feedback is always an option too.

But I would say:

1 - contact the seller and ask for your money back, plus shipping, or
2 - just keep it and enjoy it.

Rock on.

Ive had this happen before and usually seller will offer a partial refund. That way you dont have to ship it back.  Worth asking since its not as described.

I just requested a partial refund from seller. We'll see how it goes. I think I'm going to have to send it into victorinox. My best attempt at cleaning didn't get rid of some of the gritty feeling, and the scissors are kind of screwed.

Ya it looks like really bad amateur sharpening.  Scissos can be sharpened but its hard to do it well.

I had same kind of deal couple months ago. I opened a case in ebay. Two days and i got my money back. Got to keep knife also. Just gave good description of the knife. It was soaked in diesel. Nothing opened. All blades were stuck. I did get in working order though. Worked about a week for it. Used gun oil, washed about ten times with sonar washer. What worked in the end, was to give much oil, and pry tools sideways to give liners movement... Liners were stuck with dirt...
Yours seem to be cleaned with fine sandpaper. You will get dezend snap to it, but you will need work to get it dezend shine. For great results, dissassemble. Good for modding after shining it. Or practise modding for what it is...
