Hi from Yorkshire UK
on: February 03, 2014, 10:17:33 PM
Hi everyone.

I've a lurker for a while now but only just decided to join. From what ive been reading the forum seems to be inhabited by very friendly knowledgeable people who all share the same passion so im lookkng forward to getting to know you all.

Ive always been interested (slightly obsessed at times) in knives, SAKs and multitools. My obsession came from spending so much time with my grandfather who was the same.

Ive been buying them for aslong as i can remember and before i was of legal age,  my parents were doing it for me.

I have more folders than i care to count,  a few SAKs, and a few multitools from various makers. Non of them are trophy knives and all get used.  However living in a urban area not as much as id like.

Just ordered a surge and feel like getting into the modding scene,  starting with a scalel for the blade exchanger and then the skys the limit. I just wish all the tools were available separately.

Anyway.  Ill stop rambling now.

Hi everyone and thanks for all the info ive gathered so far.

Dom

P. S also a huge collector of flashlights, owning about 60+ i had a little party when i saw the flashlight section.

Welcome aboard.

If you want an easy introduction to modding have a look at the SOG (and Paladin Powerplay) line of Multitools and components.

Hello and welcome, neighbour!   :salute:

You say you have a large collection of tools but you don't get to use them as much as you'd like, so which ones do you find yourself carrying most days in the urban environment?  I'm curious because I'm in a similar situation myself.

Hi all.

Thanks Greg. Ive bee looking at them on heinnie and think its a good place to start.

Allready on it kirk.  Very interesting stuff.

Spatha,  my daily carry is a cybertool 41 as its perfectly legal and come in very handy at work. And if i dont have the pocket space just a victorinox alox or a small gerber vice if ill need the pliers.  That will soon be replaced by a leatherman juice though.

I carry a swisstool rs if i can justify it,  but my justifications usually wont hang well with the law.  Ive been considering removing the locking cams but cant bring my self to butcher my first proper multitool.   What about you?

Im always on the look out for the perfect legal EDC, I prefer the idea of making bladed MTs legal, as i file the blade very useful at times.

I wish Vic made one where the blades were sprung like on a SAK, as if I'm in a position to need a locking blade id usually have a legitimate reason to be carrying it.

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Welcome the the forum, Dom. :waving: Always nice to have another Brit around.

I completely understand the problems of obsessing on the perfect torch and multi. Can'd help heal it, don't even consider it a problem. But we can certainly help you find your next one. >:D

Nice choice with the CT41.   :tu:  That one has just about everything I need apart from the magnifier.

The tools I choose really depend on what I'm doing, but I always have something on my keys, even if I'm carrying nothing else.  Been carrying a Rambler for years and recently added a Micra and Alox MiniChamp to the rotation.

For the vast majority of the time I carry a SAK of some description.  It always used to be the Vic Alox Soldier, but recently I have been chopping and changing between the Explorer, Astronaut (Master Craftsman), Wenger Motorist and a few others...   :D

When I'm at work I also carry a pliers multitool in the form of the Rebar or Kick as well as the Raptor.

I'm always on the lookout for something new of course... :D

:twak:  Parts of Yorkshire are very flat actually.  The four counties have all kinds of terrain!  However, it is true that we do only have a very small piece of coal to eat for breakfast most days.
