I just had a look at my post count and decided: I should write an introduction thread  :to:

Yes, it is a little late, but better late than never, right? I was trying to get some good pictures of my Cologne Climber, make an avatar picture, etc.  :dd:

Meanwhile I was occupied with Christmas, my Birthday, New Year's, a breaking down Laptop  :crash: Yada yada yada  :wait: :hu: :poh: :bnghd:
During this my fiancée managed to join this forum, take some astonishingly good pictures with her iPhone and post them here. :oops:

So I decided to just start my thread here today, tell you something about me and give you some pictures ASAP, because:

AS you all know, I am from Germany, the western part of Germany that is! (There is a little rivalry, whether you come from left (west) or right (east) of the Rhine - Me being a proud left-of-the-Rhine one, of course!). Born and raised near Cologne, I now study M.Sc. Mine Surveying at RWTH Aachen (or Aix-la-Chapelle, for the francophiles).

Concerning Multitools:
I always liked the 'little' red SAKs. They are powerful beyond their looks, well engineered, pocketable and the only knive not deemed a killing machine by the Achtundsechziger (the german Hippie-Generation that went on to make politics  :doh:  :poh: :viking:), probably because they are red!

I carried a small knive with combo-opener, blade and woodsaw as a child, surviving in the jungle for weeks at a time (= carving in the backyard between lunch and dinner  :D)
I have lost two SAKs so far and now have a beautiful Climber  :climber:
(Yeah yeah yeah, pics are coming!)

In all this time, my absolut EDC item is a Vic Classic on the keyring, should be over 15 by now. It is in daily use and never failed me (within it's limits, I can't saw a tree with it) - That is Swiss quality!

I also have a Leatherman, a PSTII gifted by my uncle 14 years ago. I always get snarky remarks about 'the little toy' when I bring it out to fix something - But seldom did I get an apology afterwards, most people are more interested in learning where to buy one!  :multi:
(But apologies from your dad count hundredfold, right? That should even this out  ;) )

The multitool of my dreams (to be placed in a display cabinet) would be a '85 soldier. If I become a parent, I have to get some engraved knives for them, so they do not have to search on ebay!  :rofl:

We both loved watching MacGyver as kids but he had more interest in what he's actually having in his pocket. To me it is a tool and I have it and I use it. Before some time ago everything was just a "Swiss army knife". When I see a red multitool in the right scale, it's a MacGyver knife! :D
I now know better and try to really identify what I am seeing.

I had a red MT when I was at elementary but for the life of me I can't find it anymore and so I don't know if it was something good or just a cheapo. And I got the BW knife of my father... Somewhere... I really need to find it again! Even if the cork screwer was a bit dented (probably because of a lot of use of my father) was it special to me. For some time, when I had a bad relation to him I wasn't to fond of knowing where that tools location was, but I'm starting to want it back in my hands now.

Back to the original question: he got me more interested in multitools.

Well I already said welcome to Kerstin after her post in the intro thread so welcome to you as well. (Did I just begin and end a sentence with well? :oops: )

The BW knife, or BundesWehr Messer is better known here as the GAK (German army knife) and there are quite a few of different ones around. First ones were made by Victorinox but the Bundeswehr later started contracting other manufacturers to make them too. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the blade, hate the saw. :P
