Hi Everyone,
That's right, it's time to start thinking about the design for the new 2014 Multitool.org Challenge Coin.
This time around we plan to make a proper and fair competition out of it.

Just to remind everyone, this is what the 2013 challenge coin ended up looking like:

Here is the original 2013 coin design thread, which contains a great number of creative ideas and designs: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=43150.0
And here is the production and sales thread, which helps explain why last year's challenge coin project didn't go entirely to plan: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=44686.0
I would highly recommend reading both of these threads if you are interested in getting involved with the competition discussed below.

The Competition.
We wanted this year's selection to be much fairer than last year, so the winning design will be chosen by a members vote.
However to do this, some constraints must be put in place:

Firstly there are only 20 slots that will be allocated for designers who wish to take part in designing this years coin.
These slots are available now for members to sign up to (details below) and once all available slots are allocated, the competition will begin.

From this point all contestants will be given 1 month to complete a concept design, which will then be voted on by members in a Poll type thread.

Although not everything has been planned out in full, I can say that there will be runners up as well as a winner.
The winner will hopefully have their designed used for a production run of coins, just like last year, however at this time there is no guarantee of such a thing happening, but it is certainly our goal.

All the competition rules and guidelines will be laid out in full once the competition has officially started.

Signing Up
Considering what happened last year; i should add that this year's coin design does not have to also be a functional tool, it can be a normal, round coin, so please don't be put off if you can't think of a fancy tool design. The graphics on the two sides are at least as important as the coin's features (if any).
For those members wanting to sign up, please post your name along with the number for the order that you come in the list, whilst also copying and pasting the list of all the names before you (just like the giveaway lists).
Like this:

1. - John
2. - Paul
3. - George
4. - Ringo, etc

In case of two people posting the same number at pretty much the same time, position will be given to the first to post while the second poster will be given the next number even if the error continues through the next few posts, so watch out for it, especially when the list gets close to 20, to avoid potential disappointment. Feel free to add yourself even after the list has got to 20, just in case anyone needs to drop out of the list.

Cheers

1. Cogito (I might drop if I can't find someone to draw for me)

That will be something that myself and hopefully others will be able to help out with if needed.
However even at the voting stage a clear hand-drawn sketch could be all that's needed to convince people your idea is the best.

Also i should have mentioned earlier (now added to the first post) that the coin can be just that, without any tools on it. We tried it last year and we don't have to this year, it's entirely up to each entrant as to whether their design has a tool function or not.

This is going to be interesting. :2tu:

Damn right.

Okay that sounds good :)

On a side note if anyone can translate English into Latin, for my logo I want to say, "Don't be a tool, carry one."

Which I think is something something, something unum.

Woweeee looking forward to this. Have some ideas on my own but I'm pretty busy right now. So unless the slots won't fill up I'm going to let others have a crack at it.

I don't think you're going to get a direct translation.  What you get in Latin won't translate back to English properly.

I figured Unum would go at the end because of E Pluribis Unum, but then again I don't speak Latin :)

Mine's rustier than Sparky's bucket of axes. :P And I almost failed it in high school (partially cause I accidentally hit the teacher in the head with an eraser).

I have a few friends who are quite good at it, teach it and all  , so if we wanna go the Latin road, I could ask.

To be fair the only people this will confuse are Catholic priests. Since the rest of us would have to ask what it says anyway, it's accuracy is secondary to how it looks, laid down as text.
