Does Your EDC Change?
on: March 12, 2014, 07:18:52 PM
OK, I've seen several threads now that had something to do with what you carried today; i.e. "Which SAK is getting pocket time today?", "What tool did you carry today?", and so on.  My question is, "Does everybody's carry change daily?"  I pick a combo and for the most part stick with it; am I the odd one out or does anyone else do the same?  I do replace or add a new tool, light, etc. now and then, but day in and day out my carry list is usually the same.  What about y'all?

I carry exactly the same things, I might make minor modifications if the results are better and then I keep those permanently, but that's it.

I normally carry the same things, however, if I know I will be needing different things on a certain day, I will adjust accordingly.

To me a Charge TTi, Charge AL, and Wave can be switched with no loss of functionality (gut hook can be overlooked easily)

I do rotate my SAKs because I like all of them and take each of them out once in a while.  however, there are certain SAK tools I like to have with me, so the ones missing those see less time
If I can help, let me know

When I started (way before I found this forum...), my EDC was pretty stable (and small). Since finding the forum, I have spent much time and money changing and trying different things (and modding etc). When I find something I like (ie can find no reason to replace it with something else) it tends to become a permanent (or relatively so) part of my carry. If with use, I find that something isn't working for me, I will start looking for something to replace it (or if I never use it, drop it from the list).

So, short answer is pretty stable but not set in stone.

Recently, I've been carrying the same things but every day gear is subject to change, for instance I may swap the Wave for a Rebar some days or EDC my Mercator knife.

Most things get carried daily for months, even years without change. Some get swapped every now and then. Usually the SAK or multi gets swapped every few weeks of so to give others a chance to play or to try out a new tool.

Yep, I'm in that same boat as well. In the past I've only changed my EDC when something much better came along (a much better multitool, a much better flashlight, etc.), which would make it an upgrade actually... The other reason for changing my EDC is travel (and moving to a new country apparently... ::))

EDC is just that, EVERY day, except for flying and the like.

That means glasses, light, SAK, and either a locking folder or small fixed blade within seconds of getting out of bed. Even if I never make it out of sweats on the weekend, those are always with me.

There's only one true EDC item for me - my Executive on my keys.  Everything else is subject to change.

I have a few different items that fill each category that I think are necessary for EDC and then I just mix and match every time.

Mine dont usually change.  I just carry an Explorer and have a small flashlight on my keys.

I used to have a Rambler on my keys but dont anymore.  I miss it alot and keep thinking about getting another one.  I got rid of it so I could try a mini champ on my keys but didnt like that as it was too thick. :)

I have two EDC's.  For work, I bring a SAK of some kind.  Varies a bit, but Executive with mammoth scales, Wenger S557 or Vic Cybertimer (CT41 with Timekeeper scales) are most common.  Also, there is usually a one piece tool, either an Atwood or PocketWrench II and a small flashlight which has been a Prometheus Beta for a while now.

At home on the farm, it's either Leatherman Charge, Blue Farmer and an Atwood (Crypto or Funnybone usually) OR Vict Spirit, OHO folder of some type and an Atwood.

Most of my variation is when I go on vacation or the rare times that Janene and I are out on the town. :)

My edc is always based off what I expect for that day. If I'm venturing into the unknown I tend to overdue it. Better safe than sorry though.

Changes, very irregularly, sometimes I carry practically the same for a week or two, sometimes I switch even within a day.

I'm not a hard user of my tools, I carry them for the joy of it more than for actual use, so I pretty much carry whatever I feel like :)

Mine is mostly set up on a weekly rotation (which has gotten me a few :pok: in fun at times from some members ;)).  Right now I have 4 set weekly rotations, but I occasionally tweak them a bit depending on if I get something new or whatever.  I think at this point I'm fairly set with my rotations though.  This mostly applies to work though.  Evenings at home after work, and on the weekends, it varies depending on what I feel like carrying/fiddling with.

i get too attached to switch out too much.  i always have my lil modded wave, although i do intend to give a charge a chance when i can get one.  i generally have the same folder, right now it is a ka-bar, but until recently it was an old electrician's knife; i just wanted something with a pocket clip that carried a little flatter.  i've considered buying a spyderco knife, but i honestly can't find one i think is attractive in the least.  i add a surge in when i have heavy work to do, and i have an st-300 who donated its pliers to the surge, which is my toolbox go-to multi, should i be caught without one.  most of the others are either in the mod drawer, or scattered about the house in places where i know i shall need them most.

At work my carry is basically fixed. If I can improve it I will but I have a combination that works well and see no reason to artificially give other things an outing.

Off work is a bit more varied, depends a bit on what I'm doing, what I'm likely to need etc.

I normally carry an Explorer but lately I have been thinking about replacing it and just carrying a MT like the Wave or Rebar as my only EDC.

I go through periods of stability:

I done the Knifeless Fuse/Astronaut for ages. For the last 6 months odd it's been the KST,either with the million dollar Wenger,or a Tinker.

Normally I carry my TattooSteve custom, but for the lady however many weeks I've been testing different folders( kinda like I did with the Fit last year)

I do change things out,but I end up going back to certain combos

There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!
