Leatherman Wingman screwdriver
on: May 12, 2014, 11:30:30 AM
Has anyone else had an issue with the thickness of the regular flat head screw driver on Leatherman's. I was aware I had to change the handle on a door and I had my Wingman in my pocket. I went to screw out the screw and couldn't get a bite. I've had this issue before with a super tool 300 medium flat head. When I went to change to the smallest flat head on the file it didn't have enough surface area to gain any torque. I had to get my SAK Tinker out my pocket and it coped fine.

I realise screws come in all shapes and sizes but these are pretty regular flat head screws that I thought I'd be able to cope with my Wingman.

Wingman & Sidekick were my first two Leathermans, due to the shortcoming of their wire cutter and screw driver, I quickly upgrade to Wave.
I do feel their flathead is too thick.

Personally I do not like the sidekick or wingman, they are tools for the guy that doesn't use tools if you know what I mean. Sure I will hear some smack about that comment but For the price of a sidekick a few more dollars buys a rebar.

For me, the pinnacle of the Leatherman flat drivers was with the older tools. My Sideclip's are a great selection.

The Rebar's small driver is too small for a lot of things I need a medium driver for and far to big for anything I need a small driver for.
I've only just for my first "proper" Gerber but IMO the sizes of the MP600 drivers are much more useful. shame about the length though  :(

Didn't there used to be a head bashing against wall emoticon? Maybe that was a different forum  ???

Haha, you'll catch a smack pal :pok:  Just kidding buddy ;)  How you worded that is actually fairly accurate in my case :tu:  That is probably how I would think of it with me:  I carry these things, but I'm not a big tool user.  Not a tradesman or in any line of work that really requires any extensive tool use.  So you hit the nail on the head with that one as it pertains to me at least :salute:  You're also right about the Rebar nowadays.  It's quite affordable, and not a lot more than the Wingman/Sidekick now.

They are fun to practice modding.
